however, if you%26#039;re doing what i think you are describing, which is a 30 minute working that is generally in the proper zone, but with maybe 2-5 short periods of time (30-45 seconds) where you bring the speed up and then return it to the level in your zone, that is called a %26quot;sprint%26quot; and is actually beneficial.

The purpose of doing Cardio-Vascular work outs is to go outside of your target heart rate. Short periods are alright. Naturally you should get off the weight before working out at an increased rate. Build up to the desired heart rate for mountain biking. Enjoy yourself.
