21 year old male. Getting back into running after 2 years of partying and being hard on my body. Went to the cardiologist to have a complete checkup and got a normal report.
I am 6%26#039;1 and 170 pounds. In my second week of training now. Ran 3.25 miles today in 30 minutes and wore a heart monitor. My heart rate was at 171 at the end of 30 minutes. Is this normal..ok...and healthy?
After the run...my heart rate was at 120... 5 minutes after stopping. Then my heart rate lingered around 100 for the next 20-30 minutes before sticking around my normal daily heart rate of about 80. Does everything sound ok? Will these numbers improve? Should I be concerned at all?
Is this heart rate while running normal for someone my age? Am I ok?
Sounds like you are having a good workout. General rule of thumb is that your max heart rate in very simple terms is 220 閳?(age). So therefore 220 閳?21 = 199, typical workouts range between 60% - 80% of your max heart rate. The fact that you are at 170 bpm is not worrisome as there are other factors involved with max heart rate.
So yes that is normal for a good cardio workout of 20 閳?30 minutes.
