i went to the doc. cuz i felt short of breath and now its getting to the point where it is almost all say everyday and its very frustrating. So i wore the heart monitor for a day and the doc. told me my average heart rate for the day was 114 and got as high as 158. also i have slight pains in diffrent areas around the left side of my chest. Im going to have an echo gram done on thursday and my doctor never tells me what it could be or that there looking for, he mentioned looking at my valves? i just want to know what it it could be.

Are you overweight? Do you exercise a lot? Do you eat healthy food?
I had the same problem when I was 10 years old. Can you believe that? After exercising and dieting I got a lot better.
I was overweight. lol

Without finishing the testing he is conducting, he cannot make an educated diagnosis. He would be speculating on your prognosis, and this is not going to do you any good. He sounds like a good doctor, so be patient and wait for him to finish the round of testing that he is doing. Then he will get the results and tell you what is wrong and what needs to be done to correct the problems you are having.

I think he%26#039;ll probably be looking at your mitral valve, in particular. It%26#039;s a very common problem, where the mitral valve %26quot;prolapses,%26quot; and causes odd sensations such as you describe and an irritatingly rapid heart rate.
Even if it%26#039;s just plain old fast heart rate (the medical term is %26quot;tachycardia%26quot;), there are many CHEAP medicines (I like that word) that control heart rate.
When your heart rate goes up that fast, it%26#039;s scary. You can%26#039;t relax, because it%26#039;s pinging against your sternum like a caged bird. You%26#039;re going to be okay, though. Just remember, however, if you%26#039;re scared out of your mind with this, you have every right to march yourself into the emergency room.

Definitely could be valve. If there is pain, it may be more than that. Valve could be strained, or infected and swollen, or have another problem.
With that kind of HR, and breathlessness, you should be staying home resting. I strained my mitral valve, and needed two weeks off of work, and it took a couple more months rehab to fully recover.
