21 year old male. In good shape. However, just started running regularly on the treadmill for the first time since running track as a freshman in high school.
ran at a 9 minute mile pace for 30 minutes. After the run was over I stopped and watched my heart monitor. My heart rate was 160 before I stopped running.
It took about 4-5 minutes for my heart rate to come to 120.
Then, it stayed between 100-115 for about 10 minutes.
Then it stayed between 90-100 for about 10 minutes.
Then it stayed right around my normal resting pulse of about 72.
Of course I did walk to my car and then drove home.
Is it normal for my heart rate to take this amount of time to come back down?
No, that is not normal, your heart rate should not have been at 190 while running at 9 minute mile pace, and it should have come down much faster.
At your age you should recover much faster even if you are not in good cardiovascular condition. You should have a check up very soon.

yeah that isnt that bad a heart rate seeing as you were running but for it to take 25 minutes nearly to get down to normal pulse isnt good it should probably take 10 minutes at the most. i know mine takes less then 5 minutes it get back to normal.
but doing some more running every day should get you fitter and it should make you pulse go down much quicker.
also seeing a doctor if the %26quot;problem%26quot;continues would be a good idea.if you havent seen a doctor about it yet

I don%26#039;t think there is anything strange. You just started running. You%26#039;ll see in a few weeks that you%26#039;ll be able to recover much faster. Your rest heart rate will decrease (72 is quite high for somebody saying that he is in a good shape!) and you will notice that your heart will respond quicker and return to its rest rate faster. Just a question of exercising. However, a visit to the doctor is always advisable to be sure that everything is okay before starting running.
