Don't answer if you are clueless! Target heart rate for teens?

I put this on earlier and people who have no clue what a target heart rate is started trying to answer my question. It%26#039;s very annoying! I am 39 years old and I usually exercise at a heart rate between 150-165. I got stupid answers like 80-100 bpm. You would have to be lying down and barely moving to have a heart rate that slow!!!

Here is my question

Is there a chart for teens? I had my 14 year old daughter put on my heart rate monitor while she was skating just to see what her heart rate was and it was 180. Yikes! That sounds like alot but I know the younger you are, the faster your heart rate usually is. She is out of shape and I%26#039;m trying to get her started exercising and I don%26#039;t want her to over do it but I want her to get the benefits of it.

Skating sounds like great exercise if she%26#039;s doing it regularly!

all the charts I%26#039;ve seen begin at age 20.

yes there is a calculator. click on the links below.

you can put in your daughter%26#039;s age and click calculate.

In order to get a truly effective workout, you should do your cardiovascular work within your training zone. This is a range dependent on your age and is determined with an easy formula. Subtract your age from 220. Take this number and multiply it by .6 and you have your lower exercise range. Multiply it by .8 and there%26#039;s your higher exercise range. (Don%26#039;t like doing math? Just use our target heart rate calculator, then!)

do the calculator yourself

You can usually get a pretty good idea of how hard you%26#039;re training just by how you feel. This is known in fitness circles at the %26quot;Rating of Perceived Exertion%26quot; (RPE). You shouldn%26#039;t be able to recite the Gettysburg Address repeatedly, but you shouldn%26#039;t be so winded that you can%26#039;t carry a conIdeal Fitnesstion. If you%26#039;re somewhere in between and feel like you%26#039;re working, you%26#039;re probably right at your target heart rate.

The target range for teenagers is about 150 - 190 beats per minute

actually, that%26#039;s about right for an active teen. i%26#039;m a 19 year old male and my exercise heart rate is about 170-190. hope this helps

Well, one answer to the rather high rate is the answer I have for my own similar high heart rate: Heart Murmur. I have a rather weak heart murmur (an extra weak, sometimes stronger, heartbeat that the heart gives off) that is NOT dangerous, but is detectable. When I measure my heart rate while biking/ running i sometime get 190 (i%26#039;m 18 yrs old) and jsut laugh. If your daughter does have a heart murmur, get it checked out to make sure that everything is OK. You have to do a few rather annoying tests, but checking is important. I hated going through the tests, one of them takes a good 45 minutes of jsut sitting there...However, it is necessary.

Teens also have a higher heart (like you said) especially when they are otu of shape. 180 is not bad for a heart rate while excersizing for out-of-shape teens. The more she will excersize, the more controlled her heart rate will become.

(If she does have a murmur, simply multiply her HR by 2/3. In her case, her HR while excersizing, 180 x 2/3 = 120, a very regular Target)

If you want to lose weight you need to hit the lower end of the spectrum, an for a teen that means 150 - 140 for long periods of time.

from 160 up to around 180 is a cardio workout, which has diminished values of energy spent to calories lost

60 - 70 bpm around that area is the normal for someone not active atm

100 is for someone who is recovering from playing basketball or something
