Heart rate over 200 while Exercising?

Hi,

I am a healthy 23 yo female, 5%26#039;10%26quot;, 160lbs. I recently purchased a heart rate monitor and while i was at body combat (1 hr aerobics class) i tested it out. I%26#039;ve been going to the gym for months now so i%26#039;m definately not unfit.

My HR went up to 211 at one point but it didn%26#039;t stay up there for very long at all. My average over the hour was around 168. My resting HR is about 65.

This seems extremely high, but while i felt like i was working out i didn%26#039;t feel sick or dizzy or anything like that and i could still talk.

Do i just have a high exercising HR, or is something wrong?

One calculator I found suggested that even for a very fit person, a workout rate between 138 and 177 is suggested at your age.

A thread on another site had this comment:

%26quot;I checked the other thread with this subject: %26quot;High heart rate during exercize%26quot; and decided to ask my MD. He is a healthy living guru and cycles extensively. I told him my blood pressure and resting heart rate (57) are extremly low, but my exercize heart rate is extremely high (175 - 190). His suggestion was strength training. He said a regular routine of lifting weights will strengthen all my muscles including my heart muscles, which should bring my heart rate into a more acceptable range.%26quot;

Just to be safe, you might want to check with your doctor.
