she was on adderall for 6mths when the Dr. increased the dosage. I was told that it caused tachycardia at that time. It has now been several months since we stopped the adderall. But she is still experiencing rapid heart rates at resting position, dizziness, nausea, chest pain and rapid breathing. A 2nd opinion Dr. says her EKG is normal and see no heart damage at this time. All other possibilities have been ruled out like thyroid, anemia, etc. She just completed a 30 day heart monitor and had several severe episodes with a resting heart rate as high as 220. Please let me know if anyone else experience this.
Adderall xr...my child has experience rapid heart rate since being on adderall.?
Is there a history of arrhythmia in your family? Sometimes a genetic condition can cause an arrhythmia. I%26#039;m thinking specifically of Wolff-Parkinson-White, which causes the heart%26#039;s electrical system to work incorrectly, resulting in tachycardia. Is it possible that your daughter has a genetic predisposition to a condition such as this, and the Adderall triggered its onset? I would bring this up to the doctors, or get a third opinion. I have known of some children whose WPW began when they were born, and other people who did not develop WPW until they were adults. When unmedicated, my daughter has episodes of SVT (supra-ventricular tachycardia), not due to WPW, but from scar tissue from open heart surgeries for a heart defect.
As for the tests, of course her EKG was normal if they took it at a time when she wasn%26#039;t in tachy. It%26#039;s a snapshot in time. As for an echo, they would also likely not see evidence of the tachy unless it was occurring at that time. The evidence on the 30 day heart monitor cannot be disputed in my opinion - you can%26#039;t fake tachy. Even if it%26#039;s not occurring all the time, the arrhythmia still needs to be treated - your daughter could be injured if a tachy episode results in her passing out. We were told that tachy episodes would not damage the heart muscle itself, but can make it tired if they occur for a long time. If it was my child, I would insist that the arrhythmia be treated with medicine - there are several that are safe to take long-term.

Let me be honest with you. I%26#039;m 23 and I%26#039;ve been around alot of people on adderall. I%26#039;m talking kids who take it to get high. It%26#039;s sort of like cocaine, hence the rapid heartbeat. I took a quarter of one one time and I thought I was going to die. It%26#039;s bad stuff. It%26#039;s like your jacked up all the time. I would suggest you look into alternative medications other than adderall.
