Is it normal for my heart rate to spike this drastically?

My resting pulse is between 70-80 all the time.

I just ran up a flight of stairs to the second story and it spiked to 110. (I was wearing a heart monitor to monitor this). It took about 1 minute to come back down to 75.

Is it normal for my heart to have spiked to that level for such a short distance?

Also when I came to the top of the stairs I stopped and stood still and could tell my heart was beating deeper than if I were just sitting on the couch and doing nothing.

Is this all normal?

thats your normal body response to that kind of action. A hr of 110 is actually low..your heart is just starting to warm up.. If you excercise for 20 minutes..lets say running in a moderate pace.. Expect your hr to start climbing up to 150- 170%26#039;s and that will be the time you will feel your gonna out of breathe. Athletes are trained to reach there max limit to have a progress. Anything above that is dangerous..110 doesnt even exercise your heart. Depending on your health and age.. try hitting 140%26#039;s- 150. ..........good luck

sounds good to me. your body responded appropriately. you should expect to see a rise in heart rate on exertion and this is normal. but maybe you should start an exercise program.
