Heart Beating Very Fast?

I am a 16 year old male, 5%26#039;10%26quot;, 165lbs. I am very fit(I lift weights just about every day). One day for some random reason I counted my pulse while I was watching tv, it was 130BPM, I though that was odd because I am sitting on the couch. I counted it the next day while I had been on the couch for 20 mins, but its 131. The next day I was going to pay attention to the heart rate monitor on the bike I was using for warm up, and I watched my heart rate go up, and up finally it got 210 and the numbers went to 000(I guess it doesnt go that high?) And when it went this high I was not even pedeling that hard. Every day since I noticed this I watch the heart rate on the machine go up and up until it goes past 210(and I have tried different machines and even a personal heart rate monitor and it still goes that high). What should I do about this? Is it bad?

Heart Beating Very Fast?

your heart rate maay normally be high but contact your physician to be sure he may want to do a stress test. Good luck

Heart Beating Very Fast?

That is tachycardia, your heart rate should NOT be that high, you need to see a physician who may make you wear telemetry to monitor your heart for a few days. You may need some med to help lower your heart rate. Tachycardia is defined as over 100 beats a min, if you are getting up to over 200 that is crazy! Not to freak you out, but get to a doc soon.

Heart Beating Very Fast?

Well, first of all, lifting weights by itself doesn%26#039;t make you fit. Lifting weights exercises your skeletal muscles, and pretty much nothing else. If you really want to be healthy, you also have to work on some other aspects of fitness, such as flexibility, endurance, and most importantly, your cardio, which will affect your heart and lungs. For example, you should run for about 15-20 minutes with every workout.

Anyway, to answer your question: I%26#039;m not quite sure if your rate is terribly bad for someone that doesn%26#039;t do cardiovascular exercises. My heart rate used to be over 100 when I was your age. Note that even if you%26#039;re sitting down, the anxiety of measuring your heart rate can sometimes increase your rate. I%26#039;m not sure if the monitor on your bike is very accurate; try measuring it yourself and see if it%26#039;s different. Also keep in mind that under strenuous exercise, most people will reach a heartrate of around 200.

If you%26#039;re really worried, you could go to a doctor and get some tests done (EKG, sonography, etc.)
