Do mild anxiety meds effect heart rate or training performance?

If you are on anxiety meds...do they effect your heart rate or training performance? I wear a heart monitor when I run to help me train since I run at a certain heart rate.

If I start taking an anxiety medication will I see any change?

First off, let me say I am no doctor, so I would consult the doctor or licensed medical professional that prescibes them to you. So, as always, remember this: Free advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

From my understanding, you are talking anti-anxiety medications right? I mean, they are treating your anxiety problem, right? You do not want to induce anxiety do you?

Let us talk about one specifically, or we could be here all day. Xanax for this example. It has side effects of tachycardia (hr over 100) and hypotension (blood pressure less than 90/60) with ECG (formerly known as EKG) changes. So, yes, they effect your heart rate and I would think this could effect you training performance as well.

Xanax needs to do this to depress subcortical levels of CNS, including limbic system, reticular formation.

Hope this helps.

Good luck.

i%26#039;m not 100% sure what anxiety meds are,

but one of my friends had to take depression meds

and they made her slower

cause they basically slow down your systems.

anxiety meds sound like they%26#039;re used to calm you down right?

so that would slow your adrenaline output,

and therefore your heart rate.

over time you should adjust to it though...
