What is saline solution used for when you apply it to a heart rate monitor?

Does it give you a better reading or something?

Don%26#039;t know exactly what you mean. Monitors aren%26#039;t in fluid in any way. A swan-ganz catheter is hooked up to saline and a transducer. Is that what you mean. There has to be fluid in it so no air gets to your pulmonary artery, and you need a closed system so you can get accurate pressure readings between your system and the transducer. Heart rate monitors have no saline, at least from what I%26#039;ve seen.

I work with patients on heart monitors every day and there is no saline solutions except for if they happen to be getting iv fluids! Sorry, not sure what you%26#039;re talking about.
