Heart rate monitor watch for running?

Are chest strap heart rate monitors watches good for running outdoors, treadmills, ellipticals and cycles? if not, which one is better for gyms and outdoors? I heard that polar watches are good. How good are wrist watches?

Heart rate monitor watch for running?

The Polar ones are OK if you get a good fit.

Sometimes it%26#039;s difficult to position them.

Heart rate monitor watch for running?

You want to use HRMs with analogue chest strap in order to interface with gym equipment. Digital chest trap won%26#039;t work with gym equipment. Polar watches are probably the best but they are expensive. Nike are also fairly good. I don%26#039;t know much about monitors without chest strap but I know they can%26#039;t monitor your heart rate continuously. You have to stop your exercise, take a reading and then start again. I will add links to two articles which I think can be useful to you.

I need a home heart rate monitor for a-fib patient?

My mother is in a-fib and normal heart rate monitors

or blood rate monitors do not give an accurate heart

rate. The EKG machine that her doctor uses is able

to but it costs $12,000. Is there anything out there

under $3000 that would give accurate heart rate readings

for an atrial-fibrilation patient?

I need a home heart rate monitor for a-fib patient?

I agree there is no need for an expensive EKG machine. What is your reason for getting one. If her Doctor is worried about her heart rate, which can in A-fib have a big fluctuation, he can order a holter monitor which will record her heart rate for a period of time.

The basics information gotten from an EKG is simple enough to figure out, but a Cardiologist really needs to read the EKG to get the full picture.

I need a home heart rate monitor for a-fib patient?

Try Ebay.

I need a home heart rate monitor for a-fib patient?

not sure. you may want to search the web to get an answer like that.

I need a home heart rate monitor for a-fib patient?

A fib is an irregular heart beat which shows no p waves or missing p waves. The heart rate for someone in a fib is never the same from 1 minute to the next. Somtimes atrial fib goes uncontrolled which means the rate is above 100 and can be corrected with medication.

There is no need to monitor a fib at home. Many people are in a fib as a chronic condition and its usually treated with calcium channel blockers, beta blockers and blood thinners such as coumadin or somtimes plavix and aspirin. Sometimes in certain cases, the pts in a fib can be cardioverted in the hospital or even radiofrequency ablation is used to correct the condition. Most are not treated with such invasive measures.

You mother should be able to be monitored by her physician during her routine visits.

Spending thousands of dollars to watch someone in a fib on a monitor at home is a waste of money. Its also never going to be paid for by an insurance company and watching someone in a fib is actually pretty boring.

RN on a telemetry unit.

Let the old bag have her fun, buy her the machine

Best Heart rate monitor for spining classes ?

I want one that won%26#039;t interefere with other peoples heart rate monitors or pick up intereference.

Any suggestions ?

Best Heart rate monitor for spining classes ?

Polar heart rate monitors are pretty much the standard. I%26#039;ve not had a problem with interference when using it in combination with the watch. Some machines are either too sensitive or malfunctioning and will mis-report my heart rate, but the watch is always spot on.

Best Heart rate monitor for spining classes ?

There is a list of digital heart rate monitors which reduce interference to a minimum (link in box below). Take a look. You may find something.

Accuracy of Precor Elliptical Heart Rate Monitor?

How accurate do you think the heart rate monitors are on Precor ellipticals in gyms? I work out on the ones with the sensors on the handle bars and the %26quot;ski arms.%26quot; I want to work out in my target zone, as I think I%26#039;ve been %26quot;over doing it%26quot; alot. Do you think these sensors are as accurate as a chest-belt version HRM?

Accuracy of Precor Elliptical Heart Rate Monitor?

They both are pretty accurate, we use the handles, as the chest belts would have to be purchased seperately. The handles work fine.

Accuracy of Precor Elliptical Heart Rate Monitor?

I think that the sensors are pretty accurate-you can usually tell if you are working out of your target zone and are overdoing it-you will be breathless.

What is the most accurate heart rate monitor system for running?

Trying to decide between Nike, Polar, or Timex heart rate monitors. Any suggestions? I don%26#039;t need a ton of features.

What is the most accurate heart rate monitor system for running?

I%26#039;ve tried both Polar and Timex. I found the Timex to lose it%26#039;s GPS real easy in cloudy weather and where there are power lines. If you are not using the GPS just the heart rate monitor. I found Polar to be better. I have since gone to Garmin, but did not get the heart rate monitor. I found trying to do it that way did not improve my running. The ole talk test works . check with consumer reports and there are some site that let you compare products. Then you can base your decision on what features you do need and how much you want to spend.

Heart rate monitor on a running machine?

On a running machine it has suggested heart rates for age. my qestion is what does it mean if your heart rate is say. more than the suggested age? when working out?

Heart rate monitor on a running machine?

Your heart rate can vary according to your fitness when exercising - like blood pressure there are only normal ranges - dont be concerned unless you have symptoms. The closer you can exercise to your maximum heart rate the fitter you are - unfit people frequently cannot get anywhere near it with exercise. If you are working out hard especially dont be concerned!

Heart rate monitor on a running machine?

it means you have to turn it down a little bit

Heart rate monitor on a running machine?

They are just suggested heart rate maxes. Elite athletes can probably topple 205-210.

Heart rate monitor on a running machine?

your heart rate is a bit faster than it should be/don%26#039;t worry about it if the Dr. doesn%26#039;t

My heart rate monitor shows me at 65-95% of MHR, is it safe?

I am 20, female, and the highest heart rate I have recorded is 218 whilst running. That was some time ago. Nowadays I go up to 195-200. I get the feeling this is very unsafe.

My heart rate monitor shows me at 65-95% of MHR, is it safe?

ok.. im a little confused since your question doesnt exactly match with the description but ill try to answer...

being between 65 and 95% is absolutely safe.

I assume you are a person who works out regularly since you own a heart rate monitor.

I would like to ask how you recorded that 218 as max heart rate, because if you saw that on your HRM, i do want to mention that sometimes due to static or other reasons, you might get an inaccurate value. Im a cyclist and I get this problem every now and then.

218 is quite rare, Ive heard of people reaching 208.. 209, or 203 like myself, but never 218.

anyhow... if that is really your max, then I doubt you have anything to worry about, it is not very unsafe, its simply that your anatomy and/or physiology allows you to reach it.

being at 195-200 for a little bit is safe as well... I would assume you reach it only for a few seconds or minutes .. correct?..

you have nothing to worry about, apparently you are working out pretty hard!! keep it up

On Precor Eliptical machines the heart rate monitor has a weight loss zone and a cardio zone, whats

It seems to me that you would loose more weight by working harder and increasing your heart rate into the cardio zone thus burning more calories.

If thats the case why is the lower heart rate zone called the weight loss zone.

In which zone will I get better results with weight loss around the waste?

On Precor Eliptical machines the heart rate monitor has a weight loss zone and a cardio zone, whats best?

The cardio zone is for improving conditiong of the heart and vascular system at that heart rate the body goes to the glycogen stores in the muscle for its energy. Now for fat loss or weight loss the heart rate is lower allowing the body to work at breaking down the fat stores and converting to energy.Basically slowly and stedy for longer duration allows the Body to continue digesting while expending,at the higher rate the demands seem more urgent and may result in using muscle as energy.

What is the best heart rate monitor watch for women?

I tried the Mio, but I could never get it to measure my heart rate, so I definitely need one that isn%26#039;t strapless.

What is the best heart rate monitor watch for women?

Omron has great monitors. They cost a little more, but are far more accurate than many other monitors on the market.

What is the best heart rate monitor watch for women?

What is the best heart rate monitor watch for women?

I got one from Kelloggs cereal in the U.K. for $15 US off of Ebay and it works well. No extra equipment needed either.

You can buy it online from Kelloggs U.K. but you need

two %26#039;best before%26#039; numbers.

How does a wireless heart rate monitor work?

My parents want strapless wireless HRM watch%26#039;s for their birthdays. They want it to beep when entering and exiting their target heart rate zones. They will use this working out, walking, and biking. Would they have to hold their fingers on the sensors of all the watches? Are there watches that have a sensor on your wrist? Dp you preset these? How to they work if they are not getting a constant read out? They don%26#039;t want chest straps!

I have to order them or find them soon at target or dick%26#039;s for this weekend.

I%26#039;m confused.

How does a wireless heart rate monitor work?

these devices detect the radial(wrist) pulse, and may be programmed to beep at set numbers. Be proud of your parents for caring about their health, they are setting a good example for you. Check out a place like sharper image for on line orders or check at a local health club or nutrition store.

Anyone know of a good heart rate monitor?

I want it to make sure I keep up a certain heart rate for for a period of time. That will probably be the only use I will have for it.

Anyone know of a good heart rate monitor?

Polar is the dominant brand. I%26#039;ve used them with no problems

I bought a Sigma Sport on clearance at the the Chicago Bike Show a couple years ago and it works fine.

The sensor belts are all the same whether you get the cheapest or top of the line.

If all you want is heart rate without any of the stopwatch, alarm, or average functions, the cheapest one you can find will be OK.

What features are important in a heart rate monitor? I train for triathlons.?

I wonder how important the alarms are that are supposed to keep you in your zones, as well as presets for different zones. Since I%26#039;ve never used one, it%26#039;s hard to know what I will want at first. It sort of seems like I should just get a bare bones inexpensive model that just shows current heart rate. I%26#039;ve seen a Timex I like - comes with Indiglo and you can change the battery on your own. Are all the extra features worth it?

What features are important in a heart rate monitor? I train for triathlons.?

My heart rate is much higher than most people when I exercise, but much lower when I am just sitting around. I got a heart rate monitor, but it confirmed what I already knew and was always above anything recommended when I was exercising. I think you would be fine with just the basic one. If I was looking for one now I would get one of the Garmins that tell you how far you have run/bike etc.

Go to the settings part on the watch and there will be a part that deals with the way the info is displayed. I forget where though. Also, the one I have is a different model so it may not be the same but this is the best I can offer.

Heart Rate Monitor strapless for exercise?

I%26#039;m trying to figure out which monitor to get for exercising. I%26#039;d also like to be able to wear it throughout the day. I%26#039;m ok with the strap, but i%26#039;m not comfortable having to put two fingers on the watch every time i do a reading. Any suggestions as to what you may have liked and why?

Heart Rate Monitor strapless for exercise?

well i don%26#039;t really use a heart monitor but it sounds like a great idea.

Heart rate monitor, help please?

I want to buy the Polar F6 HR monitor (watch) but i am wondering if I have to use the chest strap at the same time i use the watch?/ can I use just the watch or the watch depend on the chest strap?

Heart rate monitor, help please?

If it%26#039;s like the polar that I own, yes, you can use the clock porton of it- alone.

It runs just fine as just a timer.

(I just checked it now)

I LOVE my polar- it know exactly when I AM pushing it too hard and it%26#039;s not my imagination- and exactly when I am Whiming out and need to push harder.

It%26#039;s great.

I have had the thing for 2 years now! same battery

Edit: I have the Polar FS1

I wonder if my Polar A5 Heart Rate monitor is working correctly...?

I just got it mailed back to me after having the battery changed. However, now I%26#039;m constantly surpassing 85% of max HR.

In fact, my first ride with it back, I went for a 3hr ride and averaged 86 percent of max. I felt fine when I got back. When I cross the 85% threshold, I%26#039;m not even breathing hard.

Today, I was MTB at 95% of max and felt great. I thought the whold point was to keep your HR low so you don%26#039;t overdo it, as measured by how you feel when you get done. I%26#039;m not really in that good of shape.

Anyone ever observe this phenomena, and was your HR monitor working OK?

I wonder if my Polar A5 Heart Rate monitor is working correctly...?

Did you reset your settings? (height, weight, age, etc.)

Try re-entering all of your info and see what happens, this should clear up this issue...

However, since technology changes so rapidly, you may want to upgrade... I had an A5, then after only 2 years went to an A9. Now, I am looking at another again...

Completed my first century this weekend, heart rate monitor says I burned over 8k calories. Is this

It was the livestrong challenge in philly. The course had a good bit of hills. My monitor seemed to be keeping time and mileage accurately. This just seems high but I have never gone quite this long so not sure if its normal.

Completed my first century this weekend, heart rate monitor says I burned over 8k calories. Is this accurate?

The amount of calories the your monitor reports is only as accurate as the info put in it. If the monitor only records distance, speed and heart rate the info is close. What would make it more accurate is if it takes in account your body weight. If body weight can not be accounted for check or call the manufacture for what weight the unit is calibrated for. The reason is that a 200lb rider will burn 45% more calories than a 150lb rider for the same distance/time.

If you know your time go here and compare your monitor to this calculator. http://www.primusweb.com/fitnesspartner/...

edit: Artmichalek you are right I ran an average time and weight thru the calculator link I posted and 4~5k calories would be about right.

Completed my first century this weekend, heart rate monitor says I burned over 8k calories. Is this accurate?

That is really high. 4-5k would be more reasonable.

Completed my first century this weekend, heart rate monitor says I burned over 8k calories. Is this accurate?

Order of magnitude, an average cyclist burns about 25 calories per mile of riding. That number goes up and down depending on the fitness of rider, intensity of ride, conditions, etc. I would not think it unreasonable to burn between 3,000 and 5,000 calories on a century. This just stresses why it is so important to keep eating on long rides. Your body is burning more energy on a ride than most people eat in two days. If you don%26#039;t keep refueling, you won%26#039;t make it.

Completed my first century this weekend, heart rate monitor says I burned over 8k calories. Is this accurate?

Highly unlikely...

Completed my first century this weekend, heart rate monitor says I burned over 8k calories. Is this accurate?

The rate of caloric burn is dependent on rider weight, average speed, and time in the saddle.

We know the distance (100 miles). What we don%26#039;t know is the rider weight or the elapsed time (effort).

Note that elapsed times given below include all time spent at rest stops, etc ... not just the time in the saddle.

For a 100 mile distance:

1. Averaging less than 12 mph (elapsed time %26gt; 8:20).

- - Burn 22.6 calories per pound of rider weight (150 lb rider burns 3390 calories)

2. Averaging 12-14 mph (elapsed time 7:08 - 8:20).

- - Burn 25.9 calories per pound (150 lb rider burns 3885 calories)

3. Averaging 14-16 mph (elapsed time 6:15 - 7:08).

- - Burn 28.4 calories per pound (150 lb rider burns 4260 calories)

4. Averaging 16-19 mph (elapsed time 5:16 - 6:15).

- - Burn 30.0 calories per pound (150 lb rider burns 4500 calories)

5. Averaging 20+ mph (elapsed time %26lt; 5:00).

- - Burn 36.3 calories per pound (150 lb rider burns 5445 calories)

Completed my first century this weekend, heart rate monitor says I burned over 8k calories. Is this accurate?

The reading is not likely to be right. There is probably not a real lot wrong with your heart rate monitor either.

Heart rate monitors do their calculations based on algorithms. It assumes that you are riding alone and the head or tail wind is negligible. It also assumes you are of average fitness, size and shape. There is plenty of room for errors.

The largest error would result from riding in a large group. Wind resistance is the largest consumer of your energy. (About 80% @ 20mph on your own). If you are riding in a large group wind resistance is significantly reduced. The poor old heart rate monitor has no way of knowing this. So it thinks you are working really hard.

If you averaged around 30 mph for a century ride (solo) your calorie burn would be in the order of 8000 Calories.

The best way to measure calorie burn is to measure your output power. This requires an expensive power transducer to be fitted to your bike.

Once you know the power that you output you can then work out total calories burnt based on body efficiency. (Most people are about 24-25 % efficient).

If you don%26#039;t want to outlay the money, just work on about 4000 Calories/ 100 miles @ 20mph(solo). This roughly doubles at 30 mph (solo).

Riding in a group at 30 mph is hard to gauge. (Depends on how often you take a turn on the front.) Probably more similar to riding solo @ 20 mph.

Completed my first century this weekend, heart rate monitor says I burned over 8k calories. Is this accurate?

congratulations . First century proves you can do it.Keep it up.

Calories burned isnt as important as recovery intake.

I can loose 5-8 lbs on a fast (for me) century. So your muscles dont start eating themselves yum yum, be concerned with good nutrition. post ride.

All the techno crap is interesting. but dont get too caught up in it. I forget to ride sometimes spending wasted moments calculating formulas etc.

Pro%26#039;s are concerned because they are paid too.

Otherwise, unless u r ready to go there. Ride the centuries, double centuries, or anything, save your money for upgrades in components or for cycling swag. and have a blast.

Having ridden many centuries and practice rides equally as far, I havent bothered with the electronics. Yes a computer on all my bikes, but Im not lance. I dont make a living on bikes, but I ride 350-400 miles a week. Listen to your body. Not a machine.

Again Good job.

Bought hubby a heart rate monitor - anyone have any idea what the average heart rate shouldbe?

while having sex? [he%26#039;s 45 i%26#039;m 47]

Bought hubby a heart rate monitor - anyone have any idea what the average heart rate shouldbe?

hi bet

i%26#039;m roughly the same age - so if you need to test it before you give it to hubby, drop it round.

there will be guidelines in the instructions within the box and there are plenty of web pagesthat can also give advice

http://www.netfit.co.uk/fitness/test/res...

Bought hubby a heart rate monitor - anyone have any idea what the average heart rate shouldbe?

Age Target HR Zone

50閳?5 % Average Maximum

Heart Rate

100 %

20 years 100閳?70 beats per minute 200 beats per minute

25 years 98閳?66 beats per minute 195 beats per minute

30 years 95閳?62 beats per minute 190 beats per minute

35 years 93閳?57 beats per minute 185 beats per minute

40 years 90閳?53 beats per minute 180 beats per minute

45 years 88閳?49 beats per minute 175 beats per minute

50 years 85閳?45 beats per minute 170 beats per minute

55 years 83閳?40 beats per minute 165 beats per minute

60 years 80閳?36 beats per minute 160 beats per minute

65 years 78閳?32 beats per minute 155 beats per minute

70 years 75閳?28 beats per minute 150 beats per minute

Your maximum heart rate is about 220 minus your age. The figures above are averages, so use them as general guidelines.

Note: A few high blood pressure medications lower the maximum heart rate and thus the target zone rate. If you%26#039;re taking such medicine, call your physician to find out if you need to use a lower target heart rate.

How should I pace myself?

When starting an exercise program, aim at the lowest part of your target zone (50 percent) during the first few weeks. Gradually build up to the higher part of your target zone (75 percent). After six months or more of regular exercise, you may be able to exercise comfortably at up to 85 percent of your maximum heart rate. However, you don%26#039;t have to exercise that hard to stay in shape.

this is based on exercise but sex is like exercise

Bought hubby a heart rate monitor - anyone have any idea what the average heart rate shouldbe?

normal heart rate is 60-100. you should find out your target heart rate. try going to webmd.com and typing in target heart rate.

Bought hubby a heart rate monitor - anyone have any idea what the average heart rate shouldbe?

Well the funny thing is my heart rate went up when i read your quistion it should be about 72 ish but i bet your a right little tiger when you get going so i would think his rate will go up to about 180 but let him rest after

Bought hubby a heart rate monitor - anyone have any idea what the average heart rate shouldbe?

Give him a good seeing to and take a reading. You are actually far to old for that anyway!

Bought hubby a heart rate monitor - anyone have any idea what the average heart rate shouldbe?

Hi Betty,

IF the monitor is accurate (enough). Normal range is anywhere from 50 to 100 beats per minute @rest. Max heart rate is 220, minus your age. 85% of this is your target HR for workouts. Count the pulse manually to check your monitor, including while exercising. They tend to move around %26amp; bounce a bit.

As for the sex thing, leave the monitor off for that. %26quot;Something%26#039;s Gotta Give%26quot; was a movie...;-) (exercise is exercise. The same numbers apply.)

Bought hubby a heart rate monitor - anyone have any idea what the average heart rate shouldbe?

lay a little game entitled

can we break the upper reading limit of the monitor

if he don%26#039;t make it, the house will be yours right?

Which Heart Rate Monitor should I buy?

I work out in a gym..I use the treadmill and lift weights. Sometimes I do cardio at home as well, on my bike or elliptical. I do not know which HRM to purchase. I heard Polar is good, but I do not know which model to buy. Do I need one with a chest strap? Which do you prefer?

Which Heart Rate Monitor should I buy?

I can not speak from experience, however for christmas I bought one for my mother. It is not a chest strap (a lot of people don%26#039;t like those) and was a good price. Here is the link: http://www.amazon.com/Heart-Rate-Dummies...

It was on sale too when I got it. Some of them can be over $100 though. This one was easy to use and accurate my mother said and she is a nurse (retired).

Heart Rate Monitor Watches??

I am planning to buy a HRM and plan to use it for mainly jogging. I decided to get the Nike Traix c5 but it has an chest attachement, which i just found out through ebay as i was looking for the best deal.... Can anyone suggest some good HRM%26#039;s which also show calories burned, and which do not have those chest attachments???

Heart Rate Monitor Watches??

Every heart rate monitor that actually works uses s chest strap. That%26#039;s just the way they work. Anyone that doesn%26#039;t is just giving you an estimate. I have a Polar CS3000, it%26#039;s fantastic. You%26#039;ll get used to strap, it freaked me out at first to.

Heart Rate Monitor Watches??

I recently got a inline speed wheel speedometer and heart/calorie burner tracker watch from Microsport.

I too did much research on them all as well. For what I needed Microsport fit my needs. Not sure about jogging as I am an inline speed skater.

Check out their web site, might have something for you.

http://www.microsport.de/ms-eu/index.htm...

I think they are in Germany or something in the UK but I had no problems with purchase or shipment.

Heart Rate Monitor Watches??

I use a Polar HRM, exactly the M-52, its an old model but measure Heart ratio, calories, time, zones. The chest band is durable too.

If you change your mind and go to the gym and use your HRM try to buy a coded chest belt, cause someone hrm can interfere with your own.

Heart Rate Monitor comparison?

Would you runners recommend a Polar RS200sd or a Garmin Forerunner 305. Also, any known deals for either of those going on right now?

Heart Rate Monitor comparison?

I have tried both the Polar RS200SD and the Garmin 305. Since I got the 305, the SD only gets used as a wristwatch because of its easy to use alarm. The information you get with the 305 when used in Motion Based mode blows away the SD. You can%26#039;t really download information off the SD while the 305 has a reliable USB connector. Get the 305 while the rebate may be still available.

Heart Rate Monitor/Calorie Watch?

Hi, how are you doing!

If your concerned about losing weight try reading the following article!

Heart rate monitor - Watch - are they good? I am thinking of spending $70 ... worth it?

70 BUCKS!!!!!!

thats too much buddy, i recommend you look for them on wallmart or heb ( i saw some american brand ones on mexico at 500 pesos or 40 dollars)

=)

Heart rate monitor - Watch - are they good? I am thinking of spending $70 ... worth it?

No thats too much, and check them out, I have my arm so thin, that no watch takes my rate... is weird.

Which heart rate monitor is the best for exercising?

I have Polar and like it. I believe it is one of the top companies but I dont know if its #1.

Which heart rate monitor is the best for exercising?

in 1second8th times

Which heart rate monitor is the best for exercising?

I use a Polar Heart rate monitor. You can score a no-frills one for about $75 or less. If you can afford it, you might want to look at the Garmin Forerunner series. They are a GPS as well as a heart rate monitor (great if you run outdoors). They are pricey though (about $300).

How do heart rate monitor watches work? Stupid question maybe but im a total beginner?

Is there a lot of wires or just the watch?

How do heart rate monitor watches work? Stupid question maybe but im a total beginner?

It messures your pulse using a sensor on the back of the watch

How do heart rate monitor watches work? Stupid question maybe but im a total beginner?

ERROR!

what you are describing is a Pulse Monitor Watch,

the HRM work by electrical signals (like the machines in the hospital).

they usually come with a chest-belt that senses your heart beat and sends the signal wirelessly to the watch.

hope it solved your question. Report It

How do heart rate monitor watches work? Stupid question maybe but im a total beginner?

It senses the pulse from the arteries in your wrist.

Is the heart rate monitor effective instrument for the promotion of physical fitness?

Maybe not promotes but gives you a good guideline. An elevated heart rate in exercise is necessary to burn calories and fat but it can also warn you if have over exerted yourself and helps you set a pace that meets your needs. Depending on what kind of shape you are in affects your exercising heart the more out of shape the higher the heart rate.

Is the heart rate monitor effective instrument for the promotion of physical fitness?

No its just a hospital machine that goes bing. Give the points to sandersx.

Is the heart rate monitor effective instrument for the promotion of physical fitness?

I think it is a very important tool if you are trying to lose or maintain your wait, but you have health issues. Someone ansewered it%26#039;s the thing in the hospital. This isen%26#039;t exactly true. Of course they have them in hospitals but they also have a little watch thing that takes your heartbeat by using the pulse of your thumb. It%26#039;s very useful and it will let you know if there is a problem with you heart or not.

Is the heart rate monitor effective instrument for the promotion of physical fitness?

No.

That said it is possible to use a heart rate monitor in exercising.

The major problem is that the studies that give the range of the maximum heart rate to be achieved when exercising are very wide and only work as predictive values for a group of people, not for an individual. 80% of your maximum heartrate can be too much for one individual and too little for another. If you want to find your maximum heart rate, there are ways outlined on the site linked blow that will allow you to do so. Once you know your heart rate, then you can use a heart rate monitor to check your optimal training range.

Running with a heart rate monitor- HELP?

I just finished my morning workout (treadmill power walk/jogg for 65 mins). The treadmill showed that I burned 349 calories and my HRM (Polar F11) showed 620 calories. Is my HRM off or the treadmill counter is off. I made sure the settings on my watch are correct. I am a female, 5%26#039; 5%26#039;%26#039;, and 144 lbs. Any suggestions??

Running with a heart rate monitor- HELP?

Perfect demonstration why you shouldn%26#039;t bother with those calorie estimates. There is so much individual variation in mechanical and digestive efficiency, that there really is no reason for machine and HRM manufacturers to pretend they are giving you a valid number.

Just use the heart rate numbers to compare difficulty of workouts. Fuggedabout trying to estimate calories burned.

Running with a heart rate monitor- HELP?

Which of the monitors uses both your height, weight and age to calculate the estimated calories burned?

Running with a heart rate monitor- HELP?

The treadmill is messed up, unless you were walking/jogging?

Which type of heart rate monitor is the most accurate? Chest or wrist?

Well both work on the same principle of sensing pulses - from the chest or from the wrist. I guess chest monitor is more accurate because it has a stronger pulse to work on while the wrist has a faint pulse that even trained practitioners need extra-care to find it.

Consider the comfort you%26#039;ll gain in using either of the two in a particular activity. A wrist sensor would be nice if you%26#039;re running outdoor. Running on a treadmill - a chest monitor will do.

What kind of Heart Rate Monitor or Bicycle Computer should I use as a cyclist?

Buy what you can afford and need. Polar makes some of the best heart rate monitors out there that also include cyclometer features such as speed, cadence, and even power meter functions.

Ciclosport also makes a heart rate monitor that includes the cyclometer functions, but no power meter functionality.

If you really have the serious bling, you could go for an SRM powermeter. That will have the cyclometer, power meter, and heart rate all wrapped up into one. It%26#039;s also the choice of most pros out there.

What kind of Heart Rate Monitor or Bicycle Computer should I use as a cyclist?

Heart rate monitor I would try Cat Eye HR200 sells for $99.99. Bicycle computer I would try the Astrale by Cat Eye for $34.99 both are decent units. There are other types at lessers costs of different price ranges.

What kind of Heart Rate Monitor or Bicycle Computer should I use as a cyclist?

I have the polar s625x which is basically the same as the one you are looking at - Its brilliant. Although I do race and use it for training.

If you just want to exercise I recommend the polar s520, its wireless and has all the basic functions.

Cheers

Would wearing my heart rate monitor all day calculate my daily caloric expenditure?

Or should I go have a metabolic test? If I go get tested, where should I go? A gym or Dr.%26#039;s office? How much will a test cost?

Would wearing my heart rate monitor all day calculate my daily caloric expenditure?

Is the Polar F6 heart rate monitor waterproof?

I checked out the Polar USA website (cited below), and under %26quot;Basic Features,%26quot; it says: %26quot;Water Resistant 30m.%26quot;

So technically yes, the Polar F6 heart rate monitor is waterproof down to a depth of 30m (approximately 98.4 feet).

What's the best heart rate monitor to buy in terms of value for money?

Polar seem to be the standard. Most machines in gyms Ive been in pickup and display polar transmitters. I have had a number of polar monitors all, except the first, with a PC link to use the Polar Performance software. I%26#039;ve looked on eBay and you can pick the older high end models for a snip, as the early adopters buy the new models.

You can get polar models that are %26quot;coded%26quot; to cut out crosstalk.

What%26#039;s the best heart rate monitor to buy in terms of value for money?

Polar ones are pretty good and they do a range of them, depends what you want it to do and how much you%26#039;re willing to pay but I%26#039;d definitely look at their website.

What%26#039;s the best heart rate monitor to buy in terms of value for money?

Any recommendations on a good heart rate monitor?

A polar brand heart rate monitor is good to wear, and the price is affordable. Be careful with the ones that are STRAPLESS (watch only), because those are the ones that are difficult to monitor your heart WHILE you are running. The best heart rate monitors are the ones with a strap to keep a check of your heart rate, constantly.

Any recommendations on a good heart rate monitor?

Polar makes really good monitors. All kinds of styles and applications

Any recommendations on a good heart rate monitor?

i%26#039;ve had a few...what are you looking for? The one I use right now (timex) is also a nice watch. I also have a cheap polar...does nothing but show your heart rate.

all will give you about the same readings.

Any recommendations on a good heart rate monitor?

I%26#039;ve had good luck with my Polar A70. It was like $80. If you can afford it, the new Garmin Forerunner is a GPS device with a heart rate monitor. Supposedly it is fairly advanced, but pricey ($300). http://www.garmin.com.

Decide what features you want and shop around. Most of them have more information than you want so don%26#039;t over pay for something you don%26#039;t need.

Does anyone know of a heart rate monitor that captures interval timing? thanks!?

There are so many models that can do that, Polar has a wide selection to choose from and I just pick one for you - RS800sd, pls read link

Polar is considered to be the standard for HRM%26#039;s. Garmin makes a GPS/HRM for ~$199 that allows you to load the data to your PC. Where could I find a baby heart rate monitor?

How much do they cost?

Where could I find a baby heart rate monitor?

Rent one from a website. You want either a 2 mhz (better for overweight moms) or a 3 mhz one. They work great! I rented one for $22 a month (a little less if you rent for multiple months), it is totally worth it. I have been using it for a while and I am now 19 weeks. I listen to my baby%26#039;s heartbeat every night before I go to sleep.

Where could I find a baby heart rate monitor?

i got mine at walmart and it costs i think around $19.99 i think it is really cool listening to the baby

Where could I find a baby heart rate monitor?

You should ask your doctor. Why would you need a piece of equipment that he hasn%26#039;t prescribed for your child. If you are just being overly cautious, I wouldn%26#039;t you will only stress yourself out. If the Dr. don%26#039;t think you need one, don%26#039;t do it.

Where could I find a baby heart rate monitor?

Go to ebay....they are expensive brand new but on ebay you can get them as cheap as 50 bucks I have seen. (Normally they are about 200)You can get a heart amplifier at walmart for like 20 bucks but they are a waste trust me. Im 26 weeks and still hear nothing.

Where could I find a baby heart rate monitor?

Rent one for 22.00 a month at www.babybeat.com. Very very good quality.

What is the best kind of heart rate monitor?

I want one I can use while in motion %26amp; continuous feedback would be great (so I guess it would have to have the chest strap). Calories burned and a stop watch feature would also be good. Other cool features I may be missing? Good value and performance, hopefully less than $100.

What is the best kind of heart rate monitor?

Honey? You have just found your best answer. LOL! Mine is called a WrisTech. It is a very small monitor with a cuff that goes right around your wrist. It takes a couple of triple AAA batteries and will keep track of previous readings. Mine has date, time, systolic, diastolic, pulse rate and it was about $40.00 on E-Bay. It is so small and really cool. Get that one. It%26#039;s like a little blood pressure cuff. :)

What is the best kind of heart rate monitor?

I have a Polar A70 that does everything you want. No batteries (other than a watch battery) are necessary. I bought it at Sports Authority a few years ago for about $70. It works okay. I don%26#039;t use it as much as I thought I would.

They have a variety of gizmos that you can add on if you want as well.

Check out their website:

Are the "calories burned" on a Polar Heart rate monitor accurate?

I just bought my HRM after Christmas and have really enjoyed it. However, I have often wondered about the accuracy of the calories burned. I can%26#039;t really find any information on the web about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are the %26quot;calories burned%26quot; on a Polar Heart rate monitor accurate?

No, they are just an estimate. The actual calories burned will vary greatly even for 2 people of the same weight, depending upon their muscle mass and how often they exercise. So just use the calories and use them as a rule of thumb to compare one workout session to the next to see if you burned more or less calories. Use the heart rate monitor to keep your heart rate in the target zone as much as possible during your training session.

Are the %26quot;calories burned%26quot; on a Polar Heart rate monitor accurate?

THe monitor is a effective guide and tracks ones progress. I am using the product for the last 15 months and feels that now i enjoy my workout more than before!! . One should not expect that it will imporve the fitness, it only guide to improve the fitness. Report It

How do you tell calories burned with a heart rate monitor?

You can%26#039;t. It depends on other things as well such as your weight.

I need to learn how to read a heart rate monitor?

You may also want to try to find an excellent book by Dr. Dale Dubin. It has an orange cover.(I%26#039;m sorry, the exact title is escaping me at the moment). It is an excellent step by step on basic EKG reading. Try searching Amazon.com for it. If I find my copy, I%26#039;ll edit my response and let you know.

Good luck!!

I need to learn how to read a heart rate monitor?

Well it depends on which heart monitor you have.....

I need to learn how to read a heart rate monitor?

Just try your best to find the number with the label HEART RATE. Keep your eye on the oscillation of the bar or number on the heart monitor. If it spikes...Call 911 immediately.

There is no way to tell you all you need to know so go to the sites listed. Tt is a start.

Ok, I%26#039;m not familiar with that %26quot;brand%26quot;, but, most heart rate monitors operate on 9 volt batteries...(those that are carried about with you, to monitor your heart rate so that they can put the tape on a machine and see what is happening with your heart).

What is a good elliptical that shows time, calories, heart rate monitor, and quiet for an upstairs a

need something under $300 but not too big and bulky with the nessasary features.

What is a good elliptical that shows time, calories, heart rate monitor, and quiet for an upstairs apartment?

I think the Gazelle is better than an elliptical too, for that budget.

If you purchase an elliptical that is cheaper than about $1000, it won%26#039;t last more than about 2 years with average use. Anything under $300 is going to be very limited in it%26#039;s features too... I don%26#039;t think you can get a good quality elliptical for that price.

My mom uses the Gazelle too and loves it.

What is a good elliptical that shows time, calories, heart rate monitor, and quiet for an upstairs apartment?

I have a gazelle. It cost us 160 dollars at walmart. Shows time, distance, speed, and calories burned. It silent, and folds flat to fit under the bed. I love it.

This one has the heart rate monitor on it.

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.d...

Good Luck.

Where and what do I buy for an exercise heart rate monitor?

you can buy heart rate monitors from walgreens, cvs pharmacy, and maybe even sporting goods stores. they can run up to $100, but you might even try ebay to see if you cant find a cheap used one. heart rate monitors are great because you can measure exactly where your %26quot;fat burning zone%26quot; is. this way, you can keep yourself at this zone and find the right exercises that will take you to this zone.

I want to run a marathon. Should I buy a heart rate monitor? Will it help me train?

Yes!!!

You have a target pulse for long distance training and you%26#039;ll know it once you see the numbers. I didn%26#039;t want one for years, but discovered that I could cruise at 160 (beats/min) for miles but when I went to 170, I was only going to go that pace for a few minutes before dropping to 150 for a while to recover. It really taught me restraint.

It will also tell you when you haven%26#039;t fully recovered from your last run. If you%26#039;re pulse is just too high for the pace, something%26#039;s not right and you need to cut it short for the day.

Very useful; it will help you be a better runner.

I want to run a marathon. Should I buy a heart rate monitor? Will it help me train?

Depends on if you use it to train or not. If you monitor you%26#039;re heart rate but don%26#039;t apply the methods involved with heart rate training then its just a waste of time. You can get good results with the heart rate training but you really need to keep accurate records and teach yourself how to do it properly. Just put heart rate training in your search bar and you%26#039;ll see plenty of webpages that will give you the basics. You can also go to websites of companies that make heart rate monitors and they%26#039;ll help you out too.

Good luck.

I want to run a marathon. Should I buy a heart rate monitor? Will it help me train?

it楹搒 definitely a good choice for not workout over your limits.

I want to run a marathon. Should I buy a heart rate monitor? Will it help me train?

NO IT WONT

I want to run a marathon. Should I buy a heart rate monitor? Will it help me train?

Yes. I agree with n0witrytobeamused.

Heart rate monitor is one of the many factors in marathon training, but it is an important one that would teach you to be a better and more efficient runner.

When you run too fast, your heart rate will be too high, and you will tire out much quicker. So, you want to know where your pace should be, and heart rate monitor will help you with that.

To estimate your target heart rate, take 200 minus your age. That would be your estimated maximum heart rate. Some people likes it at 100%, some like 90%, and some like 80%. That is where the monitor will teach you where you should be. I too like a cruising speed with my heart rate at 160%26#039;s (I am 35, so 200-35=165, which is where I like to run).

Heart rate monitor also helps you determine your recovery - if you stop the exercise and you see a rather nice slowing of the heart rate, then you are more ready for the race. Also, at rest, most of the trained athlete will run 50-60%26#039;s, if not slower. When I am well trained for my marathon, I usually run in low 50%26#039;s at rest.

You can get a cheaper heart rate monitor like the low end Polar that runs low $100%26#039;s, and that should suffice. If you are really serious, the higher ended Polar (well into $200-400%26#039;s) will give you more information - calories burned, heart rate by the seconds or minutes and recorded to be downloaded into the computer, as well as other numbers that might be helpful if you are serious about your training and planning to run for a long time.

I want to run a marathon. Should I buy a heart rate monitor? Will it help me train?

It can help you train. A cheaper solution is to run with training partners. If you can carry on a conversation you aren%26#039;t running too hard.

I want to run a marathon. Should I buy a heart rate monitor? Will it help me train?

No. For extreme training you hearbeat must be 20-40 beats under your max hearbeats per minute. Don%26#039;t over work you heart! Ussually after training a runner%26#039;s pulse should be around 25 beats for 10 seconds.

Example.

220-your age=your max heartbeats per minute.

All you need to do is to count your pulse every 10 minutes for 10 seconds and times it by 6. Just bring a watch along so you can check while running.

You will do fine if your heart does not over work.

Heart rate?

I wear a heart monitor when I climb the stairs here. When I first started my heart rate was reaching 190. In the two weeks since I started, it has steadily decreased. Last night I added an extra 14 floors to the 28 i normally do (go up to 14, then down to 1, up to 28, then down to 1) and my heart rate barely got over 170. Is this normal as my body gets used to the exercise or is it something that I should really be worried about because my heart isnt keeping up anymore?

Heart rate?

First and foremost, ensure your heart rate monitor is operating correctly. Take your radial pulse (palm up, thumb side, on your wrist) with your index finger and take a 6 count and multiply by 10 to ensure it coincides with your heart rate monitor.

190 is quite high (at any age) unless you%26#039;re running up the stairs. If you%26#039;re over 30 years of age, you are exceeding your maximum heart rate for exercise.

The fact that your heart rate is adapting is a good thing. Your cardiovascular system is becoming more efficient. Your resting heart rate is likely decreasing as well. Your heart is becoming more efficient at pumping blood with every beat.

Keep up the great work. You are slowing changing your body for the better.

Target Heart Rate:

Calories burning walking:

Heart rate?

your heart rate should be lower. MUCH LOWER.

190 is a walking heart attack. Your heart isn%26#039;t meant to beat that fast.

Most fit people are around 60-72 beats per minute at rest. 100-140 bpm for climbing 14 flights of stairs is average.

Decreasing heart rate is a good sign.

Heart rate?

Nope...this is good news...and your right your body is getting into shape...but...you should always have a regular check up....

Heart rate?

Congratulations your becoming fit!! The target heart rate during exercise is typically 220 minus your age and you should keep exercising at this rate for 30 minutes. And they say I never studied in college. I am glad that your not a human hamster and using a stairmaster. Keep it up, sounds like you doing great.

Heart rate?

GOOD GOD DON%26quot;T STRAIN!!!

You are knocking on thanatos%26#039;s door here (death). It%26#039;s good but Christ, your heartrate shouldn%26#039;t exceed 150. Ever, really.... It%26#039;s good but don%26#039;t add more until it is reasonable! You could all of a sudden hurt yourself even if you don%26#039;t feel tired or show any warning signs with this sort of thing.

....Pray your heart moniter is somehow broken.

Heart rate?

It sounds like you%26#039;re just getting in shape. One way to find out is to go out and do something extremely strenuous (e.g. run up a hill as fast as you can). That should cause you to reach your maximum heart rate. If that gets your heart rate up to 190 or higher, that%26#039;s all it is - conditioning. The only thing that should normally decrease your max. heart rate is aging. You lose roughly 1 beat per minute per year. A very rough formula to compute what it should be is 220 - (your age). See the links I put under %26quot;(Sources%26quot;).

It%26#039;s remotely possible that your heart-rate monitor got out of calibration or otherwise defective, but that%26#039;s extremely unlikely.

Can the doctor tell a woman is having twins by the heart rate monitor?

Sometimes the doctor will suspect twins if he finds two distinctly different heart rates, but other than that it%26#039;s pretty difficult to tell. Ultrasound is the only way to be sure, and even then sometimes a woman won%26#039;t find out until about 20weeks.

Can the doctor tell a woman is having twins by the heart rate monitor?

yes because she would hear two heart beats but I doubt the doctor would tell you without an ultrasound.

Can the doctor tell a woman is having twins by the heart rate monitor?

yes because they will hear two heart beats instead of one. thats how a friend of mine found out she was having twins.

Can the doctor tell a woman is having twins by the heart rate monitor?

Sometimes. It depends. One baby could be hiding behind the other and you may only be able to hear 1 heartbeat when there really are two. An ultrasound can confirm.

Can the doctor tell a woman is having twins by the heart rate monitor?

not necessarily the doctor could miss read the monitor as the baby moved and think that there is only one there if the one twin has a weaker heart beat than the other. The best way to find out if you are having twins is to have an ultrasound done.

Can the doctor tell a woman is having twins by the heart rate monitor?

yeah there will be 2 heartbeat

What is saline solution used for when you apply it to a heart rate monitor?

Does it give you a better reading or something?

What is saline solution used for when you apply it to a heart rate monitor?

Don%26#039;t know exactly what you mean. Monitors aren%26#039;t in fluid in any way. A swan-ganz catheter is hooked up to saline and a transducer. Is that what you mean. There has to be fluid in it so no air gets to your pulmonary artery, and you need a closed system so you can get accurate pressure readings between your system and the transducer. Heart rate monitors have no saline, at least from what I%26#039;ve seen.

What is saline solution used for when you apply it to a heart rate monitor?

I work with patients on heart monitors every day and there is no saline solutions except for if they happen to be getting iv fluids! Sorry, not sure what you%26#039;re talking about.

When I'm breaking a sweat on the gym's treadmill and the heart rate monitor reads 35, shou

All of those monitors are CRAP!! They are never right. CAll 911 for your big toe after you break it kicking the damn thing.

When I%26#039;m breaking a sweat on the gym%26#039;s treadmill and the heart rate monitor reads 35, should I call 911?

Yes, get off the treadmill %26amp; CALL !!!!!

When I%26#039;m breaking a sweat on the gym%26#039;s treadmill and the heart rate monitor reads 35, should I call 911?

okay if it reads 35 and your still working out, it must be the machine cuz if it was you, you wouldn%26#039;t be able to call 911

When I%26#039;m breaking a sweat on the gym%26#039;s treadmill and the heart rate monitor reads 35, should I call 911?

just to let you know your heart rate is supposed to be over 100 at the minimum, so yes i would call 000, or 911

When I%26#039;m breaking a sweat on the gym%26#039;s treadmill and the heart rate monitor reads 35, should I call 911?

I%26#039;d call the gym maintenance person. Sounds like the heart monitor is on the fritz. If your HR was 35, you wouldn%26#039;t even be able to get on the treadmill!

When I%26#039;m breaking a sweat on the gym%26#039;s treadmill and the heart rate monitor reads 35, should I call 911?

I think you should at least see a doctor.

The fact that you made it home from the gym to type this message suggests you don%26#039;t have a %26quot;911%26quot; type of emergency, but there%26#039;s probably something wrong (although possibly with the heart monitor on the treadmill rather than your heart).

When I%26#039;m breaking a sweat on the gym%26#039;s treadmill and the heart rate monitor reads 35, should I call 911?

I think those heart rate monitors on the gym%26#039;s equipment get burned out easily from constant use by so many different people. 35 while breakig a sweat is impossible. Maybe get a heart rate monitor of your own rather than rely on the gym%26#039;s possibly faulty equipment.

When I%26#039;m breaking a sweat on the gym%26#039;s treadmill and the heart rate monitor reads 35, should I call 911?

Don%26#039;t panic. Health club pulse monitors are notoriously inaccurate. Check your pulse the old fashion way by feeling it. If you really have a pulse that low, then see you doctor for an evaluation. If you do have a pulse that low it COULD be a problem, but if you don%26#039;t feel bad it is probably not immediately life-threatening.

When I%26#039;m breaking a sweat on the gym%26#039;s treadmill and the heart rate monitor reads 35, should I call 911?

at least you work out and trying to be healthy.

When I%26#039;m breaking a sweat on the gym%26#039;s treadmill and the heart rate monitor reads 35, should I call 911?

no call the treadmill maintenance technician because the heart rate monitor isnt working

When I%26#039;m breaking a sweat on the gym%26#039;s treadmill and the heart rate monitor reads 35, should I call 911?

I would cut out the middle man and just call the morgue

Something to monitor heart rate?

im looking for any sort of device whether it be oximeter, watch or something else that is easy to operate to get your heart rate i dont want to use it for exercise i want to keep track of my rate since im on beta blockers..not looking to spend tons of money looking to spend up to 25-30 max..please recommend some

Something to monitor heart rate?

Your two fingers should suffice. Feel your radial pulse. Count the number of beats in 15 seconds and multiply by 4. That is your pulse rate per minute. See the link below.

Something to monitor heart rate?

Depending on how often you want to monitor your heart rate, a wrist blood pressure monitor may work. I think they cost around $50.00 When activated you can see your heart rate along with the Systolic / Diastolic values of blood pressure.

Something to monitor heart rate?

the watch type they sell are good. i got one for about 20 at wal-marts and it was exact with the monitors at my cardiac rehab.

Do you think Apple will come out with an Ipod that can monitor your heart rate?

I know they have the Nike+ ipod that tells you how far you ran, etc...but I want one that will monitor your heart rate as well... I dont think it would be very hard...the ipod is already on most people%26#039;s arm when they run anyway...cant they just make a strap with a pulse sensor in it?

Does this exist? or has anyone heard of any plans in the future?

Do you think Apple will come out with an Ipod that can monitor your heart rate?

It%26#039;s not %26quot;hard%26quot; - lots of companies make pulse monitors. Would Apple bother to make an iPod with one? i doubt it, at least not soon, unless they really want to differentiate their line, which isn%26#039;t an issue for them right now.

Do you think Apple will come out with an Ipod that can monitor your heart rate?

if u tell them, they would probably do it but just wait 3-5years

Does digital blood pressure monitor can monitor heart rate as well?

Yes and they are accurate as long as your heart rate is regular. If you have an irregular heart beat I suggest doing a manual or apical pulse.

Does digital blood pressure monitor can monitor heart rate as well?

yes it will I have one works good

Does digital blood pressure monitor can monitor heart rate as well?

Digital blood pressure monitor can monitor heart rate as well.

Does digital blood pressure monitor can monitor heart rate as well?

Yes. Most of the digital blood preasure monitors are able to provide you with your heart rate reading.

Does digital blood pressure monitor can monitor heart rate as well?

most do. one of the problems with the store-bought units is their calibration (accuracy). many aren%26#039;t all that accurate, or if they are, tend to become inaccurate within a year of purchase. some units have instructions on how to calibrate the units.

Likewise, many of the courtesy heart monitors at the grocery store or drugstore, are also inaccurate or wrongly calibrated. You wanted to know this, Right?

Check out Consumer Reports for some of the better, more accurate models

Can I use an electrical contact as an electrode in a low cost heart rate/pulse rate monitor applicat

It will be pressed against the skin on either the finger or wrist.

I might use two of them slightly spread apart.

The signal will feed into an instrumentation amplifier with high CMRR.

Can I use an electrical contact as an electrode in a low cost heart rate/pulse rate monitor application??

Be careful. Either use battery operated gear, or if you must use AC line power you need to use isolation transformers rated for medical applications (they have much lower interwinding capacitance, and much higher isolation (insulation) voltages than %26quot;standard%26quot; transformers.

Make absolutely sure that any leakage currents from the instrumentation amps do not run a path through the heart with more than a few microAmps. Use lower valued bias resistors from the inAmp inputs to common to provide an easier path for bias currents (other than through the body).

As for the electrodes, any non-corrosive, non-oxidizing metal (nickel-silver plated, gold plated, platinum plated) wire or contact will work as a skin electrode.

What do you think of these heart rate monitors?

Most people in fitness believe that POLAR is the best all around HRM brand. Which POLAR monitor is a more difficult question.

What do you think of these heart rate monitors?

Of the 5 heart rate monitors on your list, I would narrow it down to Polar FS1 and Sigma PC 15. Polar FS1 is VERY basic, but that may be is what you want. Sigma PC 15 is quite advanced, but really cheap for what it offers. Both are good quality products, one Finnish and the other German.

Are the Garmin heart rate monitors universal?

Why do Heart Rate Monitors show lower calories burned then the cardio machines?

I recently incorporated the use of a Polar Heart Rate Monitor into my exercise routine. I work out 6 days a week. 5 days consist of 45 minutes of cardio and another 45 minutes of weight training and the 6th day is just the 45 minutes of cardio. On day 7 I rest.

I always love watching the calorie counters on my favorite cardio machines such as the eliptical bikes and cross trainers ... they tend to tell me I burn much more calories in a 45 minutes session (about 575 to 600). A treadmill says I burn about 350 to 400 in the same time.

When I started using the heart rate monitor I noticed the calories burned on the HR monitor showed lower ranges on the eliptical bike %26amp; cross trainer ... about 375 for 45 minutes verses what the machine said (575-600). As for the treadmill, the HR monitor was closer in range to the machine.

I%26#039;m wondering which one is more accurate (the HR monitor or the machine?) Both devices make you imput your age and weight ... so why are they so different?

Why do Heart Rate Monitors show lower calories burned then the cardio machines?

The exercise machines are only estimates and they do not take into account how fit you are. The heart rate monitor is probably more accurate because it sounds like you are more fit than most people your age, so your heart rate would be a more accurate reflection of your activity.

Why do Heart Rate Monitors show lower calories burned then the cardio machines?

Unless you input your weight, the cardio machines at the gym use the weight for an %26quot;average%26quot; person--150 pounds for the machines at my gym, but I don%26#039;t know if they all use the same weight. If you weigh more than 150, you are actually using up more calories; if you weigh less, you are burning fewer calories.

Are heart rate monitors on treadmill handles accurate?

We purchased a 3.3T Horizon treadmill and it has a heart rate monitor on the handles. How long can you leave your hands on the handles to read a true accurate rate, or can you get a wrong read out by leaving your hands on too long?

Are heart rate monitors on treadmill handles accurate?

You can leave your hands on as long as you like - this will monitor your heart rate throughout your workout. It will take a few seconds when you first put your hand on it to establish the rate. If, during your workout, the monitor goes off - dry drying off oyur hands and do it again. Also - find the %26quot;target%26quot; heart rate for your age and weight. There is a range for fat burning and higher range for cardio.

Do heart rate monitors measure extra calories burned - not part of your Basil metabolic rate?

When I wear a heart rate monitor all day long and it tells the amount of calories burned, are those calories that i burn on top of my BMR? I thought that BMR is if you were laying in bed with no activity what so ever - just to keep you alive. So the calories burned while excercising and walking around during the day are calories on top of my BMR? i need help?!

Do heart rate monitors measure extra calories burned - not part of your Basil metabolic rate?

Yes, that is correct. Your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) is how many calories your body burns just to keep your heart pumping, your lungs breathing, etc.

However I%26#039;ve never heard of wearing a heart rate monitor constantly, I believe they are designed to be used just during aerobic exercise to help you keep within your Target Heart Rate range. If your monitor does have a calorie counting feature on it, if you wear it all day it will be difficult to say how much of what it is counting is your BMR and how much is going to whatever activity you are doing, as your body is performing both at the same time and the monitor won%26#039;t be able to differentiate.

I would recommend going to www.selfdietclub.com, it is a free service provided by Self Magazine and you can browse through hundreds of activities and exercises to find out how many calories you%26#039;re burning for each. You%26#039;ll also be able to keep a running total of how many calories you%26#039;re taking in.

Good luck!

(Fitness Experts) Heart Rate Monitors. Have how do they work?

I workout on a regular basis and I am interested in purchasing a heart rate monitor. I want to know how they work and if you have had one what was the best brand/manufacturer. Thanks in advance for the help.

(Fitness Experts) Heart Rate Monitors. Have how do they work?

I have one. It includes a chest strap that picks up your heart rate and transmits it to the watch. You can program the watch to warn you if your HR is going too low or if you%26#039;re going too high. There should be a Timer and a Stop Watch feature, and you can record your workouts, which show how high your HR got and what your average HR was during the workout. It%26#039;s a great tool for trying to stay within your target area.

Regarding Polar Heart rate monitors?

I%26#039;m looking to buy a heart rate monitor and have settled on a polar for now but was wondering if there was actually any major difference between the female and male versions? Or is it just the same?

thanks

Regarding Polar Heart rate monitors?

I think that the difference is in the size of the wrist strap. The male one is longer/larger and suits larger wrists whereas the female one is shorter/smaller and suits smaller wrists. You also get to choose the colors for the female ones. Polar F4 and F6 both offer male and female versions.

yes as well as the strap around the torso

What type of signal do heart rate monitors use to broadcast their heart rate (data) to the watch.?

What I am getting at would be how would one intercept those signals and read the data being broadcast. Is it a radio wave if so what frequency.

What type of signal do heart rate monitors use to broadcast their heart rate (data) to the watch.?

What type of signal do heart rate monitors use to broadcast their heart rate (data) to the watch.?

FM signal.

Heart Rate Monitors are often used by Fitness Enthusiasts because they keep a person from overworking (or underworking) the heart during cardiovascular excercise. It is widely believed that excercising within a target heart rate %26quot;zone%26quot; is the most effective way to burn off calories.

Why are my heart monitor and my pedometer giving different calorie count readings?

I wore my heart rate monitor and separate pedometer while doing a very hard 3.5 hike/trail run and the readings for calories burned are coming up drastically different. Heart monitor says 900 and pedometer says 300. I entered all the information into both - age, weight, female. Am I doing something wrong?

Why are my heart monitor and my pedometer giving different calorie count readings?

No, you%26#039;re not doing anything wrong. I would trust the heart monitor, which gives you a better idea of what YOUR body is doing and not what the AVERAGE body is doing.

Most pedometers also cannot distinguish running and walking, which have durastically different calorie requirements. It is most likely calculating the calories burnt if you were walking, not running.

How can I calculate Weight Watcher exercise points based on heart monitor information?

I would like to accurately monitor my Weight WAtcher activity points using my heart rate monitor. I use the exercise guide available to me but I%26#039;d like to be more accurate. Any ideas?

How can I calculate Weight Watcher exercise points based on heart monitor information?

There are several possible ways. One is to subtract your age from 220, and that would give you your maximum rate. Also some use your weight as a guide line for target, and maximum rates within 50% and 80%, Another would be how long it takes you to return to your basic rate after an exercise. This would improve as you get more fit. The source I used gives a good description of several ranges. Other sites are afraid and say you need to ask your doctor. This would at least hopefully rule out reason not to exercise or stress your heart. One should be that you can still carry on a conversation so you%26#039;re not so short of breath. Raising a sweat 3 times a week is another suggestion. Know your BMR or basic metabolic rate chart to see your health risks associated with weight. Good luck.
