Heart rate questions?

First a little background. I%26#039;m 57 and about 8 years ago I started sitting at a desk a lot more for my job. I gained a lot of weight so this spring I started riding a bicycle to lose weight and become more fit. So far so good. I feel 10 years younger and lost 36 pounds and rode the bike over 1300 miles. I recently purchased a heart rate monitor and have been trying to use it to push myself a little harder while cycling and jogging. I read that my max safe heart rate is 220 minus my age 57 = 163 beats per min. Now when I push myself to a heart rate of 165 range if I just downshift one gear or start walking, if I had been running, within 10 seconds my heart slows down to 155 and 10 more seconds it drops another 10 bps and after less than 1 minuit it goes back to the 120 range. Does this mean I am fit enough to start pushing harder to the 175 to 185 range?

Heart rate questions?

Your Target Heart Rate is 220 - your age multiplied by .8 which is 130.4. Working out at that heart rate 3-4 times a week for 25-30 minutes each time moderate-vigorous excercise is what they say you should be doing to be healthy. You sound like you%26#039;ve been doing great. I%26#039;m not sure why you would want to push to a higher heart rate, it may put a strain on your heart which wouldn%26#039;t be good and you really don%26#039;t need to do that, getting your heart rate that high doesn%26#039;t sound very healthy. One thing that would be good for you is to make sure you%26#039;re doing things that work all your muscles. Like anaerobic excersices - sit ups, push-ups, stretching, etc. those are the things that will strengthen and lengthen your muscles. Since your over 30 you should get a check-up if you haven%26#039;t already to make sure you are able to do all those things, asking your doctor this if you haven%26#039;t already is probably the best thing to do. I%26#039;m glad you feel so great and good luck.

Heart rate questions?

i wouldn%26#039;t push myself too hard if i were you because your heart is something that you do not want to overtrain. it sounds like you are getting the benefits you desire from working out, so why try to push yourself over the edge? if it gets too easy, just increase the intensity by adding time to your workout. keep on keeping on!

Heart rate questions?

Your heart rate and recovery are great.

I%26#039;m 34 and my target heartrate for FAT BURNING is 138-148. I also use a heartrate monitor and 1x per week I try and keep it below the 138 and go for endurance (60 -90 minutes), 1 other day I shoot to keep it above 148 in the 158 range (30 minutes only) and the rest of the time I shoot to keep it in range. Going 10 bpm above your range generally should be limited to shorter spurts and/or done during interval training (push hr up and then back off and %26quot;recover%26quot;).

I think your doing fine and if your heart rate recovers that quicky it sounds like you can certainly push yourself like you want. Just don%26#039;t overdue it. I would recommend the intervals for anyone wanting to push themselves because they just never seem to get any easier and continually challenge the body with the up/down rates. You can do this running, biking, treadmill or elliptical. I usually go 30 seconds as hard as I can, slow it down for 30-45 seconds, sometimes a minute at the end. I do this 8-10 times until it gets easy then I increase my hard time by 15 seconds until I am up to a minute/minute, then I start to add incline, resistance, ankle weights and more reps to keep it challenging.

As a point of interest, I also had a V02 max (along with the BODPOD for bodyfat % and RMR to measure my resting metabolism) test done to figure out what my BPM range should be to get the most from my workout. It was one of the most interesting things I have ever done.

Just some ideas to change it up for you...keep up the fantastic work!

Heart rate questions?

Hi there , why do you want to push yourself harder , you are doing a great job.

The heart rate monitor should come with a chart that tells you your max heart rate and the type of workout you want (have been doing)is called aerobic exercise(using oxygen) and is achieved by elevating your H/R to 65% of your max H/R and keeping it there for more than 30 mins, when you achieve this you are burning body fat at the most efficient level, and you feel like you could keep at this level forever.

If you push too hard your H/R goes up and you reach your anaerobic threshold(stop using oxygen) which is around 85% of your max H/R you stop burning body fat as the body switches to another energy source and you will become breathless and have to slow down.

Your fitness has obviously improved as your recovery is good, and you have a handle on what your heart does with different intensity of execise.

Moving forward It still depends on what your current goals are if it is weight control follow the above ,if you want to start competing then talk to a member of the gym staff for another type of program

Well done on you results , and you are enjoying yourself cannot ask for more B

Heart rate when increasing intensity?

I recently bought a heart rate monitor for running and have noticed an oddity in my heart rate when picking up intensity on a long distance run, 5km and up.

Say I run a 1:38 for first few laps, then I cut it down to 1:33 for the next subsequent laps. What I notice is that my heart overreacts at first and then stabilizes. It jumps from 158 to about 168 and then comes down to 162. Then say a mile later I increase it to 1:29 laps, my heart rate will spike to like 175 and then stabilize to around 169. Is it normal for the body to react this way to a gradual increase in resistance? What is physiologically going on that is causing this to happen?

Heart rate when increasing intensity?

It is normal for the heart to compensate for a sudden increase in pace and then stabilze at something it can handle.

Heart rate when increasing intensity?

The tougher you make it on yourself while running (however gradually you do it), the heart will pace up and come back down to a level you can hold it at and feel comfortable with. As long as it hasn%26#039;t gone berserk and stayed at an alarmingly high rate with you panting and feeling uncomfortable, you are fine.

Question about running and heart rate.?

I run 3 times a week and walk quickly on two other days. I purchased a heart rate monitor and have been playing around with it. Im 28, so my theoretical heart rate max should be 192. My resting heart rate is about 60-65. When I walk (about as fast as I can). I tend to range between 115 and 120. When I run, I go 3 miles in about 22-23 minutes and my heart rate gets up to the mid 180s. This seems very high to me. Is this indicative of improper training or general cardio weakness? Are heart rates this high common? Thanx.

Question about running and heart rate.?

Yes. The better measurement is how long the heart rate stays that high, i.e. how much time passes before you are at your resting rate. -- do you have any symptoms at that high rate?-- unable to catch your breath?

My son is a runner, usually 5 miles a day-- was in an ER after an skydiving accident-- they called everyone into the area when they hooked him up to the monitor, his resting HR was 40.

Now-- %26quot;normal%26quot; folks wouldn%26#039;t get enough circulation at 40bpm-- however his years of running has strengthened his heart and his normal %26quot;pump%26quot; puts out more than the %26quot;normal%26quot; 60 cc ( 2 ounces about) per beat.

It is true-- everyone is truly different-- the guidelines with your personal monitor are just that-- guidelines.

If you have concerns-- go get a check up with a cardiologist- worry will make you sick!

Question about running and heart rate.?

Your heart rate in the 180%26#039;s is going over 90% exercise intensity. Too high unless your sprinting but since your doing 3 mi in 22 min such isn%26#039;t the case. Its general cardio weakness and aerobic conditioning is needed. A way to find out your exercise intensity is take your max heart rate and multiply by the percentage. Anywhere from 60%-90% intensity.

How to find your heart rate and know your rate for fat loss?

During cardio activities, like karate, I%26#039;m told to have your heart rate at a certain percentage. What percentage is right for fat loss during cardio activities?

How do I figure out my max. heart rate?

How do you figure out your heart rate without a heart rate monitor (like the belt or watch thingys). I think you count the times your heart beats for 6 seconds and multiply it by 10.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Target heart rate for teens?

Is there a chart for teens? I had my 14 year old daughter put on my heart rate monitor while she was skating just to see what her heart rate was and it was 180. Yikes! That sounds like alot but I know the younger you are, the faster your heart rate usually is. She is out of shape and I%26#039;m trying to get her started exercising and I don%26#039;t want her to over do it but I want her to get the benefits of it.

Target heart rate for teens?

For resting heart rate: children over 10 and adults; 60 to 100 beats per minute.

The maximum pulse rate is 220 minus your age, and the target for a healthy pulse rate during, or just after, exercise, is 60-80 per cent of this.

Thus 220-14=206.

60% of 206=124

80% of 206=165

Heart rate while exercising 15 year child is 123 to 164 (minimum and maximum).

Please see the web pages for more details on Pulse.

Target heart rate for teens?

90 to 100 and i wouldn%26#039; t go over 110 depending on the sport that is waaaaaaaaay too high!

Target heart rate for teens?

80-100 bpm. And it will go high depending on the kind of sport. 180 is way too high. It could be shes having heart problems. It would be best if you will take an ECG exam for her heart to check if there might be wrong.

Target heart rate for teens?

Yes, she is out of shape, Her heart rate at fourteen would be 206 @ 100% but for exercise I would put her target at 175 which would be @ 85 %. So the 180 would be appropriate for a teen that%26#039;s out of shape ! So get her up off the couch and back on the skates, or treadmill ! Edit.... Alkahest has absolutely no idea what she is talking about !!!

Target heart rate for teens?

it is not a bad rate, since she was on skate....the target HR of a teen is 90 bpm. and try keep her on excersize...that is grt job you do.

and to free you from tenssion, read the following:

A study was designed to explore the relationship between self-reported activity levels and actual heart rate (HR) as measured by a portable heart rate monitor (Sport Tester PE3000). Twenty-two teenagers (8 boys, 14 girls, median age of 16) from Watertown High School, Massachusetts participated in this pilot study which involved continuous monitoring of HR during normal daily activities and simultaneous completion of a time/activity diary. There were 31 successful monitoring sessions ranging from 1.9 to 17 hours with a median monitoring time of 12.6 hours. Four unsuccessful monitoring sessions were experienced due to equipment failure. Apart from participant cooperation, the single most important factor affecting the feasibility of continuous heart rate monitoring was found to be equipment design. The overall average heart rate observed was 88.4 bpm (SD = 24.3). An individual%26#039;s correlation coefficient for perceived activity level (documented in half-hour intervals) and heart rate (averaged over the half-hour intervals) varied from 0.24 to 0.89. More than half of the correlation coefficients were below 0.40. There was a significant difference (P less than .0001) between average heart rate for time spent indoors (90 bpm) versus outdoors (103 bpm) even after correcting for sleeping time. It is concluded that continuous HR monitoring with simultaneous completion of a time/activity diary is feasible and is a promising source of information for studies on exposure to air pollutants.

High heart rate?

i%26#039;m pretty over weight, and trying to lose it. when i%26#039;m on the treadmill i throw the incline on 15 and work as hard as my body will let me. according to the heart rate monitor on the machine my heart rate has gotten as high as 185 before.

i%26#039;m wondering what a dangerous heart rate is. should i slow it down, or is it good to get it up that high?

keep in mind i%26#039;m quite over weight, so i%26#039;m sure that effects it.

thanks in advance.

High heart rate?

Hi. First off, gratz on the move to lose weight! But, don%26#039;t make the mistake of burning yourself on exercise and/or damaging your health through overwork (and yes, a sustained heart rate of 185 for a bit of time can be dangerous depending on your health).

A good way to loose weight while on a treadmill is to take your pulse when resting for 1 minute to get your beats per minute. Then multiply this number by 1.7, that will be your target heart rate during your session (For example, if your heart rate at rest is 75bpm, 75x1.7= 127bpm target). Keep within 5bpm of this number through the workout (so for a 127bpm target, stay between 122 and 132) but stay as close to target as you can.

This equates to a brisk walk and is not that heavy duty, you can even read a magazine comfortably while doing it, but it works wonders. The reason to not max out your workout and keep your heart rate a bit lower than you would think is that during an easier workout, your body doesn%26#039;t use any emergency methods of getting energy (e.g. protein break down). Instead it thinks; this is comfortable and not too stressfull, so i%26#039;ll use my most abundant stores of energy (fat) at a comfortable rate and save the emergency stuff for, well, an emergency. This method does take a commitment though, you%26#039;d need to keep that bpm goal at least 3 times a week for 30 minute sessions. You should see weight dropping (plus increased energy and better mood) by week 3 as long as you%26#039;re not offsetting the workout by eating badly.

After a few weeks as you get more in shape and your heart rate gets lower during the workout, do not increase the speed of the machine, instead, increase the angle of the slope until you hit your target rate again.

Note I%26#039;m no specialist. I had this advice given to me by a friend who%26#039;s a personal trainer and then verified it with a doctor, who said it would work well for me (and it did). Check it out with your doc and if it sounds good to him or her and he/she feels its safe for you, best of luck.

High heart rate?

it means that you are out of shape and need to move around and be more active. everyones heart rate goes up when they excercise but yours is going dangerously high because your body is not used to any type of work. and no offense but thats probably why ur overweight. try to excercise more and increase it little by little.

High heart rate?

you should always consult a doc when starting a new routine

they are the only ones that can tell you for sure

good luck with the weight loss

High heart rate?

Set the incline on 1. That%26#039;s about the natural gait of walking on a flat surface. You%26#039;re not going to lose all your excess weight in a couple of sessions. Your age also plays into this, but I would think anywhere around 120 would be a good weight / cardio workout for you. Do it for 20-30 minutes. When that becomes comfortable, increase the time and incline to keep your HR at the target level. You can determine that from fitness books at the library, or if you work out in a gym a trainer should be able to give you a good target. Good luck

High heart rate?

If you haven%26#039;t been checked by a doctor your exercise shouldn%26#039;t be as rigorous right away, 185 is a high rate but not dangerously so if you have no health problems. I would suggest that you start by reviewing your diet, what are you eating? What can you improve. Eat more fruits, vegetables and lean meats. Drink alot of water. Try more frequent but smaller meals and chew thoroughly. Eat at the table and do not watch TV while you eat, it tends to make you increase your consumption. The treadmill is a great start but try just Regular walking for a couple of weeks first for about 30 minutes a day, as your stamina increases and your weight decreases add the incline. If you experience any symptoms like chest pain, blurred vision, dizziness, faintness or flashing lights, stop and consult a doctor. Good luck to you!

High heart rate?

What is your at rest heart rate? Doubling it during exercise is considred normal. However, if you do have a concern, talk to your doctor. The doctor can tell you where to set the limits so as not to injure yourself.

Why does your heart rate increase when you drink (cold) water?

I just finished a 30 minute cardio workout at home. I had my heart rate monitor on and was watching as my heart rate went down. I noticed that every time I drank (from a straw) my cold glass of water that the number went up on my monitor. Is this due to drinking the cold water? I once heard that cold water is not good for you but... water is water as long as you drink it.

Thanks for any info?

Why does your heart rate increase when you drink (cold) water?

cold fluids cause a reflexive action to lower heart rate. Cold air will do this as well, it is a survival reaction similar to the reaction one gets when hypothermia sets in.

Like the old saying goes, they aint dead til they are warm and dead.

Actually sometimes Supraventricular tachycardia has been stopped with ice water...or exposure to cold outside air.

Why does your heart rate increase when you drink (cold) water?

Well, i GUESS its cuz ur body gets colder when u drink cold water that ur heart needs to pump more blood throughout ur body to maintain the safe temperature

Why does your heart rate increase when you drink (cold) water?

hi there... so you just finished working out your core temperature is really high hence the sweat to cool you down... when you drink cold water your core temp goes down dramatically this is really not good, the temperature needs to go down slowly thats why you have a cool down after every strenuous work out so that your heart can compensate the flow of blood... when something cold disrupts this cool down making the temp. lower your heart beats faster to make sure your organs gets their adequate supply of oxygenated blood....

Why does your heart rate increase when you drink (cold) water?

Normally if you get colder your heart rate will slow down, under cooled people have a heart rate of 30 per minute or so, and if you are really cold the heart stops.

So it could just be you reacting to a cold stimulus in your stomach, and not you as a whole cooling down faster.

Why does your heart rate increase when you drink (cold) water?

Runners what heart rate do you run at. I want to run but am afraid to get my heart rate too high.?

So those of you who run with a heart rate monitor what rate do you usually run at. What should i expect my heart rate to be. My max is 182.

Runners what heart rate do you run at. I want to run but am afraid to get my heart rate too high.?

a general rule of thumb for your max heart rate is 220 minus your age... so if you%26#039;re 15, your max would be 205

depending on what type of workout you%26#039;re running, whether it%26#039;s an easy day or a hard day, you should go for different rates

for easy days, try to stick to about 75% of your max heart rate

for hard days, you can go anywhere between 85-100% of your max

just whatever feels comfortable to you is most important. don%26#039;t get too caught up in your heart rate, because you%26#039;ll lose your ability to listen to your body. if your body says you%26#039;re working too hard, then listen and ease up the intensity

Runners what heart rate do you run at. I want to run but am afraid to get my heart rate too high.?

The idea of a scale that gives you your maximum heart rate is out dated. People can run a much higher rate than 220 minus their age. People are different and their heart rates are different. If you are talking about doing distance running at a percentage of your max, you really don%26#039;t have to worry. Your body will tell you when to slow down. If you are conditioned you can run at a much higher percentage than most people. The success of distance runners is that they can run at a much higher percentage of maximum speed for a long distance. Sprinters can run much faster, but can not run at a high percentage for very long. When I am training with a monitor during intervals I wait until my rate is below 110 before starting the next interval. I never worry about what I was hitting during the interval. If I am running distance I just run what I feel like running that day.

Runners what heart rate do you run at. I want to run but am afraid to get my heart rate too high.?

I%26#039;m 15 old proffesional runner but we all proffesional runners don%26#039;t know our heart rate. We run like coach says. For you i propose to run in the pace, then you can make a smile in your face and talk to someone. It means you%26#039;re running in the right pace.

Runners what heart rate do you run at. I want to run but am afraid to get my heart rate too high.?

Both I Run... and lestermount have good points.

The estimated maximum heart rate of 220 (or 200, depending on who you ask) - your age is an old calculation. It is not necessarily the most scientific. However, it does give you some idea of where you should be. Some people like to run at 100% of that, but most people stay at 80-90% of that maximum heart rate.

What you should do is to run with a heart rate monitor and see at which heart rate do you run the best - not necessarily the fastest but instead the best overall performance - longer distance at consistent speed. The point of knowing your optimal heart rate is that, when you are doing distance running, you can maintain yourself at that heart rate so your body can work efficiently, so you can run that long distance at your best speed without tiring out too quickly. As for training short distance, maximum heart rate at speed training doesn%26#039;t mean much.

Does this mean I am fit enough to start pushing harder to the 175 to 185 range?

Question about heart rate?

Max heart rate is max heart rate, i.e., that%26#039;s as fast as it will go.

220 - age is an estimate of max. Yours is obviously NOT 163. When operating at max, you%26#039;re well above your cardiovascular system%26#039;s ability to deliver oxygen to the muscles. Lactic acid accumulates quickly and brings your sprint to an end within a few minutes at most.

Max heart rate is what it is for you as an individual, and gradually declines with age. Best way to find it, if you%26#039;re so inclined, is during a medically supervised stress test, although you could also get there in the latter stages of a 5k.

At your age, a stress test is probably a good idea on general principles, before you take your sessions to any sort of extreme. Your fitness level sounds like you won%26#039;t have any problems, but you can%26#039;t always tell.

Fitness isn%26#039;t simply a matter of %26quot;Just going harder%26quot; and chasing a higher heart rate every day.

Heart rate monitors can be a very useful tool, but as you%26#039;ve figured out, they don%26#039;t mean anything in a vacuum. Rather than writing a book here on YA, I suggest you have a look at Sally Edward%26#039;s Heart Rate Monitor book. Sally is a veteran triathlete, and give%26#039;s you all the ins and outs of using a monitor to maximum effect as a cyclist.

----

Edit: Fatherjac, I haven%26#039;t read Friel%26#039;s book, but his columns in the various mags over the years have been very good. The book is likely first rate as well. Good call.

Question about heart rate?

Again Silver has a great answer. No one here should tell you to go out and max out. Check with your doc just to get a base line and see is tha all is well. With that said, you do sound like in good enough shape to work as hard as you please. As you must know, recovery is one key to measures to your fitness. Good for you.

Question about heart rate?

I think a stress test is a great idea. I had one a few years ago, and I asked the doctor if I could push on to a higher level for a few minutes, since I sometimes did that in exercise. I felt it was relatively safe, since I was already at the hospital.

Thankfully, I was able to maintain that pace for several more minutes without any irregularity, so I am comfortable giving myself a push now and then.

Remember, you only get one life; better safe than sorry. if nothing else, it will make you feel more confident when you%26#039;re pushing yourself.

Question about heart rate?

I am 59, a similar age to your self, and have been cycling since my late 20%26#039;s and I still race. I recommend that you get a copy of %26#039;Total Heart Rate training%26#039; by Joe Friel published by Ulysses Press. It is the simply the best book I have ever read on the topic of using a heart rate monitor in a structured training programme.

This book will tell you that the heart rate formula is based on a statistical average of a large sample of the human population and really means very little to specific individuals. %26quot; There is no fool proof way to estimate max HR, there are simply too many variables eg. age gender, fitness level, health, mode of excercise etc etc.%26quot;

I know from experience that my own Max HR is around 174. The formula would predict that it would be 161.

Your Heart rate recovery from 165 down to 120 seems excellent. Joe Friel would say that you had a Phase 1 Heart Rate Recovery Differential(RHRD) of 45. Phase 2 is the slower decay in HR from 120 to normal after a workout and is dependant on Workout intensity, duration state of fitness etc.

I can%26#039;t advise you on whether you are ready to start harder training, you should get the opinion of your doctor. I would say that studying books by experts like Joe Friel will help you a great deal. Interestingly he also has published a book %26#039;Cycling Past 50%26#039;, which is again excellent and is full of good advice for cyclists like us :o)

Question about heart rate?

here is the best way to test how fit you are. go out for 10 minutes as hard as you can. then take your reading right away. then wait 1 minute and take another reading. if you drop more than 50 bpm you are in great shape and your push it harder.

remember has hard as you can in 10 minutes

Question about heart rate?

Let me get this straight...

You%26#039;re a 57 year old male who was obese, but started cycling and lost 36 lbs. Now all of a sudden you%26#039;re pushing over your max heart rate as if you were an elite Tour de France sprinter?

Unless there is a 5-year span stuck between being overweight and now, you%26#039;re headed for a heart attack, mister.

Perhaps your HRM isn%26#039;t very accurate or is picking up interference. You should be in SERIOUS hurt if you%26#039;re really working at 100% of max heart rate, not talking about it like it was a walk in the park.

Question about heart rate?

Congratulations on losing weight and getting fit.

I think the other respondents have done a nice job of discussing maximum pulse rates, etc. I haven%26#039;t read the Heart Rate Training book by Joe Friel, but I highly recommend his %26quot;Cyclist%26#039;s Training Bible.%26quot; I therefore expect the Heart Rate Training book will be excellent.

Here are my questions: Did you get clearance from your doctor prior to starting your fitness program a year ago? Have you discussed this with your doctor? I would recommend you discuss your fitness plan with your doctor and get a stress test if it is recommended.

Meanwhile, your max heart rate really isn%26#039;t that important a number as far as training is concerned. Most fitness programs recommend you set your workouts according to your lactate threshold. As you are probably aware, your lactate threshold is that point at which your body goes from aerobic to anaerobic and your body begins to hurt. (Of course, as you get in better condition over time, your lactate threshold will get closer to your max.) Maximum heart rate should only be approached during some interval type workouts and races.

Attempting to work out at or near your max is most likely going to be counterproductive. Working out at such a high level requires tremendous energy and causes substantial fatigue which forces you to add rest days to your workout schedule. This isn%26#039;t bad on occaision, but obviously isn%26#039;t what you want to do regularly.

Check out some training books like those from Joe Friel or others and I think you%26#039;ll get a much better idea of how to structure your fitness program.

Best of luck to you in the future and I hope this helps you out.

Question about heart rate?

The only way to truely find out your maximum heart rate is to exercise until you almost black out. Seriously. It sounds crude but it is true. You try a stationary bike if you are afraid of crashing. I did this on a rowing machine and Polar heart rate monitor. My max was 203 BPM but, of course, it%26#039;s not something you can really sustain for long periods of time. I verified this with my bike on a long climb. I am 30 years old. Don%26#039;t worry about exceeding your max by 1 or 2 BPM. It%26#039;s not the end of the world.

Does and elevated heart rate indicate pregnancy?

In my first pregnancy (which resulted in a miscarriage) I worked out a lot and I had noticed that my heart rate would be in the 100%26#039;s before I even got started. I already knew I was pregnant and figured my heart rate was high because of the baby. My husband and I have started trying again, and when I go into the gym my heart rate monitor is telling me that my heart rate is in the 100%26#039;s. That%26#039;s before I even start. It%26#039;s too early to take a pregnancy test, but does anyone think that%26#039;s a good indication of pregnancy?

Does and elevated heart rate indicate pregnancy?

No.

Does and elevated heart rate indicate pregnancy?

Elevated HR is NOT an indication of pregnacy. You need to have this evaluated by a physician. An elevated heart rate my be nothing, may be stress related, or can be serious. Please follow up with your MD.

Does and elevated heart rate indicate pregnancy?

Um...could be. But alot of people, especailly after a baby, will always have increased heart rate. Im not pregnant and my heart rate is high all the time!

Does and elevated heart rate indicate pregnancy?

If you want to be pregnant be careful elevated heart rate may indicate pregnancy. However, if you really want to know the cause then have a pregnancy blood test. It will be 100 % right.

Does and elevated heart rate indicate pregnancy?

I would really check with your OB doctor. My OB doctor said that I should not exercise where my heart rate would get to a 100.

Running fast but low heart rate?

I have worked my way back up to running 12 km in 70 minutes after having a baby 5 months ago. I didnt run much during pregnancy. At first when I started back, my heart rate rocketed.

My question is; although I am happy my running is progressing, when I push myself to run fast (on treadmill), and it feels tough, my heart rate is still very low for the effort? ie. at the bottom end of my training zone - 135-150 bpm) when it feels like Im doing 80 plus percent!?

Surely this is not just improved fitness, as I still feel Im pushing it. (My heart rate monitor is quite new)

Thanks for any feedback

Running fast but low heart rate?

If 150 bpm is near the bottom of your target zone then what is the top? I would seriously question the calculations you used for your target zone. What is your average resting heart rate?

If you%26#039;re running 12k in 70 min 5 months after having a baby I would say be happy about that and ditch the heart rate monitor.

Running fast but low heart rate?

u got it wrong the fitter u get the slower the heart pumps as ur body isnt been pushed the way it used to it is uded to the things ur doing wiv it try pushing urself harder but id be happy wiv a slow heart rate while exercising means ur v fit

Running fast but low heart rate?

The fitter you get the stronger your heart becomes, the lower your heart rate will be under stress, and the quicker your recovery period will be. You can always do a quick check against your heart monitor by taking your pulse reading, but dont forget, your pulse rate is varying all the time, even at rest.

Heart rate jumps to 215-230 BPS for < minute, why? Is it dangerous?

Hello. I am 32, very thin (125 lbs at 5%26#039;8%26#039;%26#039;) and very athletic (play a lot of sports). I wear a heart rate monitor (Polar) when working out and sometimes leave it on when I am home. I notice that sometimes my heart rate will be in the normal range (60 to 85 bps) when I am sitting and watching Tv or reading and then it jumps to about 215 or 233 it stays there for less then a minute. This happens about twice a day (at different times). Should I be worried? Do I need to see a doctor? Does anyone knowwhat might be happening? Thanks in advance for your help.

Heart rate jumps to 215-230 BPS for %26lt; minute, why? Is it dangerous?

It sounds a little like Wolf-Parkinson White syndrome. Read up and see if it applies.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolf-Parkin...

If it sounds close, you should see a doctor ASAP. It could be fatal, but there%26#039;s a surgery they can perform that takes care of it. Good luck.

Heart rate jumps to 215-230 BPS for %26lt; minute, why? Is it dangerous?

Yea you should seek a doctors advice, you are way too thin.

Heart rate jumps to 215-230 BPS for %26lt; minute, why? Is it dangerous?

Definitely need to see a doctor. Don%26#039;t wait any longer it%26#039;s not healthy and may turn in to something dangerous.

Heart rate jumps to 215-230 BPS for %26lt; minute, why? Is it dangerous?

This is absolutely not normal.I can%26#039;t believe you didn%26#039;t pass out with a heart rate this high. You should ask your doc for a holter monitor to wear for 24-48 hours while it continually traces your heart rhythm. You go back to the office and he reads the strips and he can make an accurate diagnosis.I also suspect your machine is malfunctioning.

Heart rate jumps to 215-230 BPS for %26lt; minute, why? Is it dangerous?

get to a doctor...unless the monitor is on the fritz this is really bad

Heart rate jumps to 215-230 BPS for %26lt; minute, why? Is it dangerous?

its can be normal, everyones heart rates will suddenly start racing or slow down, you may have a heart mermor, i have a slight one which i was told causes my heart beat to do the same thing, they can be a problem but only if the heart memor is major if its only a slight one then its no problem at all. but to be safe deffiently make a docs appoitment just to make sure there is nothing serious going on.

Heart rate jumps to 215-230 BPS for %26lt; minute, why? Is it dangerous?

I very concern about your current situation, I suggest you shoud go see your doctor ASAP.

Heart rate jumps to 215-230 BPS for %26lt; minute, why? Is it dangerous?

Should see a doctor to be safe...

But it is more than likely, just the heart rate monitor recalculating the rate. Check with the manufacturer if this can happen with your model, they%26#039;ll probobly say only accept a constant reading over a full minute...

Heart rate jumps to 215-230 BPS for %26lt; minute, why? Is it dangerous?

It sounds like paroxysmal atrial tachycardia. I have no idea why you are doing this. I would consult a cardiologist. I do not believe it is life threatening, though.

Heart rate jumps to 215-230 BPS for %26lt; minute, why? Is it dangerous?

Yes, your heart rate looks fine until you have this rapid increase to the 200%26#039;s..this is speculation without a EKG while you are having this rapid increase but it could what is called atrial fib or flutter and or it could be ventricular in nature which could be called SVT..but what ever it is this is a serious concern. I am an ER nurse and you could be having a lethal dysarrthymia that could cause death...Not to scare you but this is why I am telling you to see someone ASAP..they may need you to wear what is called a %26quot;Holter monitor%26quot; which will capture what your heart is doing all the time in a 24 hour or longer period..are you having shortness of breath or chest pain with this?...good luck..

Heart rate jumps to 215-230 BPS for %26lt; minute, why? Is it dangerous?

This may be a condition called paroxysmal atrial tachycardia (PAT) for short, and you should go see the doctor.

Heart rate jumps to 215-230 BPS for %26lt; minute, why? Is it dangerous?

Sounds to me without seeing your EKG that you have bouts of AFIB going on which is a kind of SVT. I%26#039;d call your doctor and talk to him about this.

He will most likely want you to wear a Holer Monitor for a week or so, to catch these episodes.

From there, there%26#039;s medication to take, or even a very cool procedure that takes care of this issue.

Best!

Heart rate & lactic acid buildup?

I crosstrain (weights, running, biking, stepping, etc...). I use a heart rate monitor and here is something I%26#039;ve observed which I have no explanation for. During a 5k running race, from training and experience, into the beginning of my second mile I set a pace that keeps me just under my lactate threshold which I know to be 186 bpm. Now I%26#039;ve never cycled for real or gotten on one of those mountain bikes, but I do ride the bikes at the gym. Here is what is peculiar. Most bikes at the gym have level of intensity 1-20. After warmup I gradually ascend the intensity, at around level 16 my heart rate only reaches the 160s but I start to feel the lactic acid burn in my legs. I suspect part of this phenomenom is because different leg muscles are targeted in running vs. cycling, but my legs are significantly strong (can squat 315 and deadlift 405). Anyone aware why my LT is lower for cycling than for running?

Heart rate %26amp; lactic acid buildup?

Don%26#039;t confuse lactate threshold with lactic acid buildup.

Just because you have a specific muscle group going anaerobic doesnt mean your cardiovascular system has reached LT. It is entirely possible for a muscle group to be working anaerobically but your CV system still has the ability to supply oxygen to the rest of your muscles, so your HR will remain below LT. Sort of like doing crunches, you can easily drive your abdominal muscles anaerobic and induce lactic acid buildup, but your HR will remain below LT.

If you were to drop your squat weight to below %26#039;warm-up%26#039;, then try to bang out one squat per second until %26#039;failure%26#039;, I suspect you might find the same result in your HR, depending on just how much weight you use.

Heart rate %26amp; lactic acid buildup?

You%26#039;re right about using different muscles being the cause. Specifically, you use fewer muscles in cycling, so the individual muscles are doing more work. Leg strength (as far as squatting and dead lifting) doesn%26#039;t have anything to do with your lactate threshold unless you are squatting until you reach 160 bpm.

Heart rate %26amp; lactic acid buildup?

Awesome question - I can rarely work up a sweat on a spin bike - it totally pisses my wife off %26#039;cause she%26#039;s next to me with her shirt soaked!!!

Seriously though - I have the same problem - 5 or 10K at 185 all day long, shoes willing, no problems. Then, I go kill the spin bike!!!

Thanks for the question - I just put an answer in so I wouldn%26#039;t loose it!

Normal heart rate working out?

I was using a tread mill at the gym last month, anyways so i quit smoking for a while and was working out a lot...i wasn%26#039;t drinking for at least a month and no drugs. When I was using the treadmill it had a heart rate monitor on the machine when your hands touch, so it was a pretty new machine..my heart rate hit a steady 200-210 and I wasn%26#039;t out of breath, is that good or bad or normal idk? maybe you could clarify that for me =) is my heart overworking or something it seemed a bit high but it was accurate as far as I know...I%26#039;m a think flexible athletic guy and in shape and was when I was doing it. I can swim across a lake and back and not get out of breath I don%26#039;t understand... whats normal???

Normal heart rate working out?

When anything like that bothers you, you have to see your doctor. It is better to be safe than sorry, and only a professional can be trusted with your health. Make an appointment.

Normal heart rate working out?

It depends on how long you were working out before it hit that, I have Tachycardia (a racy heart), so my heart rate is SUPER fast, I%26#039;ve had a few surgeries for it and some other heart conditions I have, but it never helped. I%26#039;m not sure about your normal rate range when you%26#039;re working out though, it depends on the person, it%26#039;s dangerous when your heart beats irregularly, but if it%26#039;s just fast, and it doesn%26#039;t affect your life, then it should be okay. My rate has gotten past 200 just at a sitting rate, and the doctors acted like it wasn%26#039;t a big deal except for the fact that I was always out of breath and tight chested.

Normal heart rate working out?

I used to do that a lot in college. It would go for an hour run at 190 and sometimes it would spike to 210. At age 26 it settled down to 160-170. with spikes to 180. Doctor says everything is ok with my heart. Just be sure to warm up for 5 mins before running at that rate.

Why does my heart rate change so drastically?

My resting heart rate is at about 64 bpm, but the slightest movement changes my bpm to 80, is this normal? I do exercise 6 days a week and I would rate myself as a healthy individual, but I just wanted to make sure my heart is healthy. Thank you!

And I%26#039;m using a MIO SHape Elite Heart Rate Monitor watch to measure my bpm

Why does my heart rate change so drastically?

sry .....but do u smoke weed? may lead to pala-pa-ta-tions........................... know somone will yell at me for this one

Why does my heart rate change so drastically?

Heart rate can be damaged by obesity, being overweight, being underweight, bulimia, anorexia, poor diet, poor health, illness, drugs, alcohol abuse, smoking, and many other factors. If it%26#039;s concerning you, have it checked out.

Don't answer if you are clueless! Target heart rate for teens?

I put this on earlier and people who have no clue what a target heart rate is started trying to answer my question. It%26#039;s very annoying! I am 39 years old and I usually exercise at a heart rate between 150-165. I got stupid answers like 80-100 bpm. You would have to be lying down and barely moving to have a heart rate that slow!!!

Here is my question

Is there a chart for teens? I had my 14 year old daughter put on my heart rate monitor while she was skating just to see what her heart rate was and it was 180. Yikes! That sounds like alot but I know the younger you are, the faster your heart rate usually is. She is out of shape and I%26#039;m trying to get her started exercising and I don%26#039;t want her to over do it but I want her to get the benefits of it.

Don%26#039;t answer if you are clueless! Target heart rate for teens?

Skating sounds like great exercise if she%26#039;s doing it regularly!

all the charts I%26#039;ve seen begin at age 20.

yes there is a calculator. click on the links below.

you can put in your daughter%26#039;s age and click calculate.

In order to get a truly effective workout, you should do your cardiovascular work within your training zone. This is a range dependent on your age and is determined with an easy formula. Subtract your age from 220. Take this number and multiply it by .6 and you have your lower exercise range. Multiply it by .8 and there%26#039;s your higher exercise range. (Don%26#039;t like doing math? Just use our target heart rate calculator, then!)

do the calculator yourself

http://inch-aweigh.com/targetheart.html

You can usually get a pretty good idea of how hard you%26#039;re training just by how you feel. This is known in fitness circles at the %26quot;Rating of Perceived Exertion%26quot; (RPE). You shouldn%26#039;t be able to recite the Gettysburg Address repeatedly, but you shouldn%26#039;t be so winded that you can%26#039;t carry a conIdeal Fitnesstion. If you%26#039;re somewhere in between and feel like you%26#039;re working, you%26#039;re probably right at your target heart rate.

Don%26#039;t answer if you are clueless! Target heart rate for teens?

omigod copy pasted advice ftw Report It

Don%26#039;t answer if you are clueless! Target heart rate for teens?

The target range for teenagers is about 150 - 190 beats per minute

Don%26#039;t answer if you are clueless! Target heart rate for teens?

actually, that%26#039;s about right for an active teen. i%26#039;m a 19 year old male and my exercise heart rate is about 170-190. hope this helps

Don%26#039;t answer if you are clueless! Target heart rate for teens?

Well, one answer to the rather high rate is the answer I have for my own similar high heart rate: Heart Murmur. I have a rather weak heart murmur (an extra weak, sometimes stronger, heartbeat that the heart gives off) that is NOT dangerous, but is detectable. When I measure my heart rate while biking/ running i sometime get 190 (i%26#039;m 18 yrs old) and jsut laugh. If your daughter does have a heart murmur, get it checked out to make sure that everything is OK. You have to do a few rather annoying tests, but checking is important. I hated going through the tests, one of them takes a good 45 minutes of jsut sitting there...However, it is necessary.

Teens also have a higher heart (like you said) especially when they are otu of shape. 180 is not bad for a heart rate while excersizing for out-of-shape teens. The more she will excersize, the more controlled her heart rate will become.

(If she does have a murmur, simply multiply her HR by 2/3. In her case, her HR while excersizing, 180 x 2/3 = 120, a very regular Target)

Don%26#039;t answer if you are clueless! Target heart rate for teens?

If you want to lose weight you need to hit the lower end of the spectrum, an for a teen that means 150 - 140 for long periods of time.

from 160 up to around 180 is a cardio workout, which has diminished values of energy spent to calories lost

60 - 70 bpm around that area is the normal for someone not active atm

100 is for someone who is recovering from playing basketball or something

Are the heart rate monitors on cardio machines accurate?

When I work out on an a elliptical trainer, it rarely says that I%26#039;ve reached my target heart rate. I%26#039;m a female, 5%26#039;7%26quot; and weigh 170 pounds. Sometimes it will say my heart rate is 60, but my heart is beating way faster than that! When I take my own pulse, it%26#039;s about 180. Are the cardio machines right?

Also, are the %26quot;calories burned%26quot; on cardio machines pretty accurate?

Are the heart rate monitors on cardio machines accurate?

The calorie counter on the machine is usually pretty accurate.

I%26#039;ve given up on the heart rate monitor on the machines at the gym. I bought my own (pretty cheap from Walmart) and it came with a little %26quot;watch%26quot; thing you wear that picks up the number for your heart rate. It is a self-contained system.

However, the machines at the gym can pick up anything. If the person on the machine next to you is wearing a heart rate monitor, your machine can pick up the other person%26#039;s heart rate. Plus, so many people use them so often that they often eventually get kind of screwy.

I%26#039;d recommend just getting your own and wearing it.

What is my maximum heart rate?

my maximum heart rate is supposed to to 205 because im 15, but I just started using a heart rate monitor and my heart rates goe up to like 203. Is something wrong?

What is my maximum heart rate?

225 - age is a theory. Do proper exercises to enhance the cardiovascular system and proper ones to cool down and decrease the heart rate. If you are 15 and healthy, a max rate of 203-210 is OK. Just do proper cool downs. Don%26#039;t keep your heart at the max rate, for that is not the objective.

What is my maximum heart rate?

that is fine

Heart rate over 200 while Exercising?

Hi,

I am a healthy 23 yo female, 5%26#039;10%26quot;, 160lbs. I recently purchased a heart rate monitor and while i was at body combat (1 hr aerobics class) i tested it out. I%26#039;ve been going to the gym for months now so i%26#039;m definately not unfit.

My HR went up to 211 at one point but it didn%26#039;t stay up there for very long at all. My average over the hour was around 168. My resting HR is about 65.

This seems extremely high, but while i felt like i was working out i didn%26#039;t feel sick or dizzy or anything like that and i could still talk.

Do i just have a high exercising HR, or is something wrong?

Heart rate over 200 while Exercising?

One calculator I found suggested that even for a very fit person, a workout rate between 138 and 177 is suggested at your age.

A thread on another site had this comment:

%26quot;I checked the other thread with this subject: %26quot;High heart rate during exercize%26quot; and decided to ask my MD. He is a healthy living guru and cycles extensively. I told him my blood pressure and resting heart rate (57) are extremly low, but my exercize heart rate is extremely high (175 - 190). His suggestion was strength training. He said a regular routine of lifting weights will strengthen all my muscles including my heart muscles, which should bring my heart rate into a more acceptable range.%26quot;

Just to be safe, you might want to check with your doctor.

Heart rate over 200 while Exercising?

heart rate or blood pressure rate?

Is my heart rate low?

i am 15 yr old male and i was sitting one morning and my heart rate monitor recorded 31 bpm for 2 min and even after going down the stairs and up it only rose to 39

Is my heart rate low?

I guess you mean 31 heart beats per minutes, and not 31 heart beats per two minutes. It is very low for your age, it%26#039;s usually about 80, and maybe increased up to 120 when you walk stairs. However, if you do a lot of exercises or practice a sport, your heart beats per minute while decrease. I know runners at 16 years with 35 bpm, but it is extremely low. Its not dangerous though, more a sign that they hearts are healthy, as they%26#039;ve been running so much that their in extremely good shape. However, low pulse may be a sign of sickness. If you don%26#039;t exercise a lot, I think you should make an appointment and talk to a doctor about it. Before you do that, you should also check with another heart rate monitor, and try to measure your pulse by yourself. Your heart rate monitor might be wrong, and heart monitors doesn%26#039;t always works as they should on all people for different reasons.

Is my heart rate low?

That sounds like quite a seriously low heart rate, especially for your age. I%26#039;d suggest you go see your GP IMMEDIATLY. You might be suffering from hypertension or even worse...

Is my heart rate low?

Your heart rate monitor might already be faulty, or maybe you didn%26#039;t put it correctly. Check your monitor first.

If your monitor is in good shape, then confirm it by taking your radial pulse rate for a full minute. When it%26#039;s under 60 beats per minute, then you better go and see a doctor for a check-up.

Is my heart rate low?

Tom K

A normal heartbeat of an adult is 60-100 per minute, with children slightly higher.

You do not suggest that you are in anyway involved in sport of any type, which might cause a lower heart rate. Therefore, it may be a heart condition that you should consult the doctor about it.

Hope this helps

Is my heart rate low?

There may be something wrong with your monitor, or the way it is being used or hooked-up. The readings should be at least, at the 70bpm mark, or, more logically, higher, toward 75 and above, especially after some physical activity or exertion, such as going up stairs. Normal range should be between 70 and 80, at basal; with exertion, the reading should climb over 80 easily, depending on the degree of stress from the exertion. The more the demand/stress, the higher it should climb.

Losing weight around the waist...cardio....heart rate.?

I%26#039;m having trouble losing weight around my waist/belly. I%26#039;ve been running for months now..although i%26#039;m not trained on how to monitor the runs or my heart rate. I%26#039;m planning to purchase a heart rate monitor today and put it to good use. What is a good training zone for someone who is 5%26#039;6%26quot; and 130lbs? HELP! I hope to have my belly in shape by June :o)

Losing weight around the waist...cardio....heart rate.?

Yeah, what they said. Sounds like you%26#039;re doing great.

Losing weight around the waist...cardio....heart rate.?

the rule of thumb is your MAX heart rate should be 220 minus your age. and your training heart rate is 70-80% of that number.

so if you%26#039;re 20, your MAX is 200, and your training rate is around 140-160. Try to keep your heart rate in that zone, and you%26#039;l be fine.

also, you want to keep your heart rate in that zone for at least 30 minutes so your body starts to burn fat.

Losing weight around the waist...cardio....heart rate.?

I know how you feel. Whenever I start gaining weight, it goes to my belly first. When I lose it, it%26#039;s the last part of my body to finally trim down. Your height and weight are not necessarily the sole factors to consider when calculating your heart rate. The main factor is your age, then your weight and build/height. Here%26#039;s a handy discussion of what to consider when figuring your target heart range to lose weight that I lifted directly off the American Heart Association%26#039;s website. http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.j... Other than this, you might google %26quot;find target heart rate%26quot; and see what kind of hits you get. I did that and one of the first links was pretty accurate for me. It%26#039;s http://www.stevenscreek.com/goodies/hr.s... Type in your age, then choose one of the next options. It will generate a two-category result. I would just pay attention to the first part %26quot;% of Maximum%26quot; and Look at the first two columns to get your 60% and 85%.

As for me, I have found that a cardio combination of about 60% and 85% makes a great weight loss setup. What I mean by that is that once you discover your heart range, you can alternate cardio workouts with a 60% workout and an 85% workout. I have found that if I just go all out everyday, the weight does not come off as well as when I go about 60-65% one day and 85-100% the next day. I tend to have longer workout on the 60% day, and more brief workouts on the more intense day, but never less than 20 minutes. If you have access to a gym, some great machines for the 60% day are the elliptical trainer and any bicycle machine. Many of those even have metal touch pads that read your heart rate when you grip them for a few seconds.

Also, if you%26#039;re focusing on your belly, ab-workout, ab-workout, ab-workout! If that%26#039;s difficult, trust me, it gets easier the more you do it. I use Runner%26#039;s World%26#039;s Personal Trainer to generate workouts, and it has a great ab-workout regime. It costs a little money, about $6/mo., but I find it works well for me. Otherwise, I%26#039;m sure if you googled %26quot;ab workouts%26quot; you could find a ton of good stuff.

Lastly, I have found that someone with a darker skin tone naturally shows muscle definition more than someone with a lighter skin tone. Don%26#039;t know if this helps, but if you%26#039;re pale white like me, I have found that a bit of a tan brings out some muscle definition.

Good luck! I know that was a bit long, but I hope it helps. I%26#039;m actually trying to do the same for myself by June.

Losing weight around the waist...cardio....heart rate.?

Running wont do much good for losing weight in you belly. It only defines your legs to give it more muscle. Trust me, I%26#039;m a pretty good runner. I would suggest doing sittups. This has worked for so many people in losing weight. My mother is a personal trainer, so she teaches me everything. Make sure that while you%26#039;re working your abdominals, to breathe. This is very important if you want to lose wieght. I hope this helps.

Losing weight around the waist...cardio....heart rate.?

Great job - It sounds like you%26#039;re doing real good with your running. As a general rule-of-thumb, our bodies start burning fat as a primary fuel (over glycogen) when we%26#039;re at 60-70% of our MHR. Our MHR = 220 - age. See the link below for some more info on HR. Best of luck!

Unusually (dare I say freakishly?) high heart rate?

I ran about a mile today after having had very little regular exercise for a couple years. About half way through the run, I started walking and measured my heart rate. In five seconds I measured 15 beats, which I believe translates into 300 BPM. I measured two more times, and I had 15 on the second measurement and 14 on the third.

For the sake of hypothetical argument, let%26#039;s assume I measured accurately. (I may get a heart rate monitor to look into this better.) Is this kind of heart rate even possible?

I was really tired after my brief workout, and the music on my iPod sounded slower (which is actually normal for me during workouts), but other than some back pain, I didn%26#039;t feel anything unusual.

Unusually (dare I say freakishly?) high heart rate?

Fibrillation is defined as a heart rate higher than 350 beats per minute. Since you felt fine, it%26#039;s possible you were feeling double beats which often are not a sign of any problem. You could also have been feeling not only the beats in your neck, but the beats in your fingertips, increasing your total count. You could purchase a simple wrist heart monitor to wear while you exercise and check it%26#039;s recordings. But to be extra sure you could ask your doctor about getting an EEG or even a Holter monitor. It is worn for 24 hours continuously recording the heart rhythm.

Unusually (dare I say freakishly?) high heart rate?

I would have to get that checked out

Do you check your heart rate while your walking?

Crazy question, but i don%26#039;t have a heart rate monitor ,and i know you can check your heart rate by taking your pulse, but when exactly do you check it?Do you stop walking and check it?Do you walk for 20 minutes then stop and check your pulse?I%26#039;m asking because it%26#039;s pretty hard to check your pulse while your walking ,so i%26#039;m just wonder exactly when during the workout do you check it?

Do you check your heart rate while your walking?

Yeah, I walk around all the time with my hand on my chest counting.

Do you check your heart rate while your walking?

I check it while im running

Do you check your heart rate while your walking?

I don%26#039;t really walk, and I usually run on a treadmill, so it checks my heart rate automatically.

Personally, I find the level test more useful. It goes from 1-10, with 1 being a casual walk when you%26#039;re able to carry an engaging conversation on, and 10 being a sprint when you feel like you%26#039;re pushing yourself to the limit.

A good rule of thumb- if you feel like you are talking a casual walk and can talk freely, speed up; If you cannot say a complete sentence, slow down. Anything between is ok. Do not be scared of getting sweaty- it shows that you are working out.

they have a ton of those scales (1-10, 1-5, 1-25, etc) and they are helpful if you do not have a heart rate monitor

How valid is heart rate monitoring on aerobic exercise machines?

I am 51, people think I look younger. I%26#039;m in good shape but according to the aerobic exercise machines at the gym, I%26#039;m supposed to keep my heart rate under 150 or something. I can work a lot harder but my heart rate goes up into the red zone. Its seems pretty arbitrary to me. Any advice?

How valid is heart rate monitoring on aerobic exercise machines?

My guess is, the machines are just giving out an approximate number and it%26#039;s not 100% accurate. The only way to find out your true maximum heart rate is to do a stress test on a treadmill at the doctor%26#039;s office while hooked up to an ekg. Then once u have that figure, u can work the numbers in.

Or...

Do what I did. I purchased a heart rate monitor and ran as fast as I could, holding the effort for at least one minute. Mine came out to 212bpm. So, 75% of that would put me at 159bpm and 85% would be 180bpm.

Do they have heart rate monitors for swimming?

I don%26#039;t need anything with too many features, just something that%26#039;ll count my heart rate per minute to make sure i%26#039;m reaching my target heart rate while working out and is accurate and affordable. If you know of any, that would be great

Do they have heart rate monitors for swimming?

yes, they are some that are waterproof

How do I get accurate heart rate zones for exercise?

I am wanting to get accurate zones to work out in. I keep finding conflicting advice. Some get you to work out resting heart rate and calculate form there others get you to subtract your age from a number.

I get the zones (eg 60 - 80% for weight management 70 to 90% for cardio fitness etc.) I need to set my heart rate monitor to accurate readings before I know where I am at,

Anyone???

How do I get accurate heart rate zones for exercise?

The easiest and best known method to calculate your maximum heart rate (MHR) is to use the formula MHR=220 - Age. A paper by Londeree and Moeschberger (1982) from the University of Missouri-Columbia indicates that the MHR varies mostly with age, but the relationship is not a linear one. They suggest an alternative formula of MHR=206.3 - (0.711 é‘´?Age). Similarly, Miller et al (1993) from Indiana University propose the formula MHR=217 - (0.85 é‘´?Age) as a suitable formula to calculate MHR.

How do I get accurate heart rate zones for exercise?

Get a decent heart moniter...totally worth it.

How do I get accurate heart rate zones for exercise?

The easiest way is to calculate by your heart rate, but the this is that is not accurate because it is based only in your age and not in your body. The cardio calculation is accurate , but the problem is that is difficult to remmember because it is based ina statistical table.

What are the risks of working outside of your target heart rate for short periods of time?

I%26#039;ve recently been working out and lifting weights again and I%26#039;ve been doing it w/in my target heart rate. At the weight loss heart rate, I don%26#039;t feel like I%26#039;m really getting a workout so I%26#039;m usually in the cardio zone. However, sometimes, I want to push myself for short periods of time by running but then the heart rate monitor on the treadmill tells me to bring it down. I am 32 yo female excited to get back into shape and start moutain biking again. Also is weight a factor in your target heart rate? What%26#039;s safe?

What are the risks of working outside of your target heart rate for short periods of time?

other than injury, the main thing you should know about working higher than your %26quot;zone%26quot; heart rate is that you burn a higher percentage of sugars and lower percentage of fat when working at such a high rate.

so, you don%26#039;t want to over train by doing an entire workout at a rate that is too high.

however, if you%26#039;re doing what i think you are describing, which is a 30 minute working that is generally in the proper zone, but with maybe 2-5 short periods of time (30-45 seconds) where you bring the speed up and then return it to the level in your zone, that is called a %26quot;sprint%26quot; and is actually beneficial.

What are the risks of working outside of your target heart rate for short periods of time?

The purpose of doing Cardio-Vascular work outs is to go outside of your target heart rate. Short periods are alright. Naturally you should get off the weight before working out at an increased rate. Build up to the desired heart rate for mountain biking. Enjoy yourself.

What are the risks of working outside of your target heart rate for short periods of time?

I bought Heart rate/calorie burn Monitor Watch. I wonder is the Calorie Burn calculation accurate?

Heart rate monitors are usually exact, however calories burned depends on many variables such as geographic location, body-type, diet, body composition, supplementation and some genetic factors. So unless you can customize these and input variables in the equation then chances are the result will have a margin of error.

The following page is a good example of several calorie burned calculators which are estimates but can offer you valuable comparisons:

I bought Heart rate/calorie burn Monitor Watch. I wonder is the Calorie Burn calculation accurate?

to a point, everyone burns calories at different rates, there are so many variables. These devices give you a average

I bought Heart rate/calorie burn Monitor Watch. I wonder is the Calorie Burn calculation accurate?

prpbably not

Are the wrist heart rate monitors good?

I am pregnant and workout and the info says that my heart rate can not go above 140 beats/min. So, I saw a wrist one, but my sister says they are not as accurate, is that true??? Thanks for your help!

Are the wrist heart rate monitors good?

no they are not as accurate your sister is right

Does taking a beta blocker lower my maximum heart rate?

I take 100mg of toprol daily for high blood pressure. I%26#039;ve been running for the last 6 months and recently started using a heart rate monitor while running. The highest I%26#039;ve been able to get my heart rate is 171. That was sprinting up hill for a 1/4 mile and dry heaving at the end. after a 2 mile slow warm up. I know for my age of 28 my MHR would normally be in the 190%26#039;s. Any explanations?

Does taking a beta blocker lower my maximum heart rate?

Ok. Toprol will lower your heart rate, but also your body is just getting used to being worked (like running) Just take it easy. Sometimes Toprol will lower you too much.

Does taking a beta blocker lower my maximum heart rate?

dear, there are receptors in the heart which responsible for increase and decrease of the heart rate under the control of sympathatic and parasympathatic mediators.....when you run your muscles need energy and as compansatory mechansim heart rate will increase , bete blocker drugs will decrease the heart rate since there are no receptors to make your heart rate increase....so heart rate will deacres when you take these drugs

Question about fitness test and heart rate?

I took a 5 minute fitness test and after the 5 minutes of working out I stop working out and place my hands on the heart rate monitor. It said I am below my average. What does that mean exactly?

Question about fitness test and heart rate?

If you%26#039;re showing as %26quot;below average%26quot;, it will likely be because your heart rate was higher than the machine thinks it should have been (if you put in all your information, weight, age, etc.).

Take the results with a grain of salt, though.

Question about fitness test and heart rate?

It just means that either you are very fit and your heart is used to doing a lot of cardio, or it means you weren%26#039;t working hard enough and didn%26#039;t get up to where you should be for that amount of activity. You might need to increase your intensity a little bit.

Question about fitness test and heart rate?

Providing you keyed in your age sex and weight i think it is probably meaning your cardio and stamina could be better. Not really sure. I have done the 5 minute fit test on the treadmill and i am below my fitness average. Just keep working out and check it once a week, mine has improved slowly but that suits me fine as long as it isn%26#039;t getting worse.

Keep it going.

Help with an easy way to stay within target heart rate?

I need an easy way to stay within my target heart rate when I exercise. I dont have a heart rate monitor. And I was told that the workout machines are not that accurate. I know that if I stay within range, I will continue to burn fat through out my entire workout. Any suggestions anyone?

Help with an easy way to stay within target heart rate?

Use the talk test;

- if you can%26#039;t talk or can barely talk during your workout then your heart rate is too high

- you can talk words and sentences then you%26#039;re heart rate is within target

- if you sing or whistle during your workout then your heart rate is too low

Be sure to go fast enough that you%26#039;re actually trying and burning fat, but not too fast because you wanna keep the same pace the entire workout (no stopping or slowing down)

Has anyone else noticed that upon awakening from an afternoon nap your heart rate rises alot when yo

My resting heart rate is 67. I often nap in the early afternoon on weekends. I feel asleep with my heart rate monitor on and when I awakened and stood up to go in the kitchen I noticed my heart rate was 128 bpm. It went down slowly as I moved about to 110 bpm but stayed slightly elevated for about an hour.

Has anyone else noticed that upon awakening from an afternoon nap your heart rate rises alot when your stand?

When you immediatly stand up after a period of sitting or laying down, your blood and your heart adjust to that position. The blood circulates in that fashion where the gravity is pulling from your back. So when you stand up, some people often feel dizzy or hazy immediatly upon standing up because of the immediate drop in blood pressure when you stand up. It happens because the heart is not used to that position so the blood falls to your feet. It usually gets better after a few seconds. So basically your heart is speeding up to get blood to your head and to your upper body.

Has anyone else noticed that upon awakening from an afternoon nap your heart rate rises alot when your stand?

Your heart rate always goes up after a rest period. Do just sit up in bed first before walking around to speed up the heart rate slowly.

In movies, we always see the heart rate machine flatline when someone dies. What's that machine

dont say %26quot;heart rate monitor%26quot; if there%26#039;s a better name for it. Thanks

In movies, we always see the heart rate machine flatline when someone dies. What%26#039;s that machine called?

It is the ECG Electro Cardio Gram machine the screen is the monitor

In movies, we always see the heart rate machine flatline when someone dies. What%26#039;s that machine called?

That would be a heart Monitor. It measures you vitals. Sorry, but you asked a very stupid question.

In movies, we always see the heart rate machine flatline when someone dies. What%26#039;s that machine called?

I think you are thinking of an ECG or EKG machine. Not sure of the difference in heart monitor and the ECG machine--they may be the same.

Oh, yes, in my opinion, this is not a stupid question. lol

Can you have high blood pressure and a low heart rate at rest at the same time?

I do not exercice and if i start running i get breathless easily but when very relaxed my heart rate can go down to 45-50. I have a professional heart rate monitor so the figure is exact.

Can you have high blood pressure and a low heart rate at rest at the same time?

yes i have high bp at rest but my pulse rate is normally 74

I'm 17 weeks pregnant and a bit ocncerned about the fetal heart rate?

i bought a fetal doppler heart rate monitor and when i%26#039;m listening i calculate a heart rate of about 80 bpm. from all the information i have read this sounds way too low. what advice can anyone offer me?

I%26#039;m 17 weeks pregnant and a bit ocncerned about the fetal heart rate?

Unless you were able to buy a fetal heart monitor like the one the doctor has and you use the jelly like the doctor does, you shouldn%26#039;t even be able to hear your babies heartbeat.

I bought a heart beat monitor from the store and was told by the sales woman and the instructions that it is to be use only in the 3rd trimester because it won%26#039;t pick up on a babies heart beat in the first or second trimester because it isn%26#039;t strong enough. I, however, am only 26 weeks along and I have been able to pick up the heart beat a few times- though I am only a couple weeks away from my 3rd trimester.

You might be picking up your own heart beat instead.

Anyways, at evey doctor visit they will or at least should use their heart beat monitor, which is way more advanced, and when they do just ask how many beats a minute it is. I do and they always tell me. My babies heart rate has been between 140 and 150.

I%26#039;m 17 weeks pregnant and a bit ocncerned about the fetal heart rate?

Go to the doctor if you are concerned.

I%26#039;m 17 weeks pregnant and a bit ocncerned about the fetal heart rate?

You aren%26#039;t counting fast enough is my guess. And a home doppler is probably not as good as the doctor%26#039;s. Go to the doctor if you are concerned about it.

I%26#039;m 17 weeks pregnant and a bit ocncerned about the fetal heart rate?

call dr if you are concerned but i have heard people say the home dopplers can be hard to find the heartbeat and keep it for the full count. Talking to your OBGYN would be best.

I%26#039;m 17 weeks pregnant and a bit ocncerned about the fetal heart rate?

My advice? You%26#039;re probably picking up your own pulse. You have major veins and arteries in your belly, and 80bpm is pretty normal for an adult.

I%26#039;m 17 weeks pregnant and a bit ocncerned about the fetal heart rate?

that sounds really low. maybe your mistaking your heart beat for the baby%26#039;s. i think you should call your doctor and ask him/her if you should go to the emergency room or something.

I%26#039;m 17 weeks pregnant and a bit ocncerned about the fetal heart rate?

talk to ur doc

I%26#039;m 17 weeks pregnant and a bit ocncerned about the fetal heart rate?

First off, those things arent totally accurate. you miss probably 30% of the heartbeat because it goes so quickly. if you are seriously stressed about it, go see your OBGYN. he can check the baby and make sure he/she is ok.

I%26#039;m 17 weeks pregnant and a bit ocncerned about the fetal heart rate?

I agree that you are prob. getting your own heart rate, especially since the baby isn%26#039;t that large right now and the home dopplers aren%26#039;t as sensitive. I bought one with my first pregnancy and couldn%26#039;t tell what I was listening to until after at least 30 weeks, Im 24 weeks now with my second and I still can%26#039;t tell the difference between the sounds in my stomach and the baby....Just have your doctor check it at your next appointment, if your really concerned in the meatime just make an appointment and have it checked sooner...GL

I%26#039;m 17 weeks pregnant and a bit ocncerned about the fetal heart rate?

are u sure its not your pulse? cause that happened to me once and i went to the docotor and took that heart monotor too with me and the dr said that it was my pulse and not the baby heart...he showed me where to find the heart around my tummy! go to the dr and take that thing with u too....

I%26#039;m 17 weeks pregnant and a bit ocncerned about the fetal heart rate?

Mama enjoy every day please try not to be stressed. Eat right,

exercise, and take your prenatal vitamins. If you have ?? talk to your doctor. Having a child is the most awesome thing in the world. Take good care of yourself. From one mother to another.

I%26#039;m 17 weeks pregnant and a bit ocncerned about the fetal heart rate?

you are probably listening to your own heart rate, not the babies. babies should be between 120-180...definitely not as low as 80. I really wouldnt be surprised if youre picking up your pulse though and not your babies heart rate. go to the doc, and when they find your babies heart rate ask them for advice on how you can find it on your own

I feel like I am slowing my exercise to stay within target heart rate??

I just started using a heart rate monitor when I exercise. I am trying to stay within the 60-80% range, but sometimes I feel like I have to slow my exercising to stay below or at 80%. Am I still benefiting??

I feel like I am slowing my exercise to stay within target heart rate??

Well, there really is no target heart rate range, unless you are training for endurance sports. Then you would want to get to your lactate threshold and attempt to keep it just under there. But as a strength and conditioning specialist, what I recommend is interval training.

I too have a heart rate monitor and usually what I do is intervals based on my heart rate rather than time. Being 25 I get my heart rate up to 180 as quick as I can then slow my run or cycle cadence to get me down to 140, then I shoot it back up to 180, and so on and so forth. I do that about 8 times. Research supports that this is much better for weight loss than Long Slow Distance (LSD) training. LSD training makes you very efficient with your energy source. If you are trying to lose weight, you want to be inefficient.

I describe it like this; your car has much better mileage on long freeway trips because there is not the stop-go-stop-go of city traffic. In the city you get horrible mileage and are inefficient with your energy source (i.e. gasoline). Your body operates the same way. Once you hit what we call steady-state your body learns to become efficient. Which is not what you want when trying to lose weight.

However, if you are not trying to lose weight, but training for performance, well thats a whole other answer.

I feel like I am slowing my exercise to stay within target heart rate??

How old are you. I am in my late 20%26#039;s and I let my heart rate go up to 85%. Any movement that you do will benefit you. I would talk to your Dr. about a healthy heart rate for you. You may be able to do a little more than 80%.

Heart rate concern?

Every wednesday and Friday my gym class works with heart rate monitors. Every minute you get in your zone (145-185) is credit for the day. Lately, my heart rate is constantly well above 185, but my teacher gives create for people that go over since they appeared to %26quot;work hard.%26quot; Other people tell me I%26#039;m unhealthy because my heart rate gets up so high. Now, I do work hard when I do straps, I certainly don%26#039;t just walk and have it go up... I usually play badminton and run.

Basically, do you think I%26#039;m unhealthy?

I%26#039;m 5%26#039;5 and between 115-120 pounds. A lot of people consider me quite skinny, so should I be concerned that my heart rate is often higher than my friend%26#039;s? or is it just because I work really hard.

Heart rate concern?

my friend had the same problem. does your heart feel hollow when it beats faster? you need to see a doctor and they%26#039;ll give you a heart monitor that would keep track of your heart rate for a month or so. go to a doctor. better safe than sorry.

Heart rate concern?

That is too fast. Your teacher needs to be educated.

Heart rate concern?

Sugar probably is the main cause, I%26#039;d guess. Your not fat, so punch anyone who makes fun of you. (ok maybe not)

How does your heart rate come into play when working out?

I notice on most machines at the gym they have heart rate monitors so you can check your heart rate. How does your heart rate affect your work out? What%26#039;s a healthy heart rate and how much should it be when working out? In general, mine tends to be around 150-185 depending on how hard I%26#039;m working out. ...Is that good or bad?

How does your heart rate come into play when working out?

If your goal is body fat loss then your heart rate needs to be between 60% and 70% of your Maximal Heart Rate. The machine will calculate it for you when you put in your information. Between 60% and 70% is when your body burns fat as fuel. You are still conditioning your heart to work more efficiently.

Above 70% you are training at the aerobic level. At this level, you are conditioning your lungs to work more efficiently. You are also still conditioning your heart.

Is it OK to be above the 80% intensity cardio heart rate?

I put my fingers on the heart rate monitors on the elliptical trainer at the gym...by the time I go on it to cool down, my heart is usually racing because I%26#039;ve just finished an intense weight lifting workout, and then I%26#039;m running on the elliptical. So anyway, they have a little chart on the machine, for 60% and 80% target heart rates for your age group. I%26#039;m 21 and my 80% target intensity heart rate was listed as 160...but my heart rate is usually around 190 on the machine. Is that too high? My resting heart rate is around 60-65, and my blood pressure is around 135/70.

Is it OK to be above the 80% intensity cardio heart rate?

yes, it is too high, it may actually cause damage

your heart is like the rest of your body parts, it will eventually lose its function as you grow older; if you overuse it now, it won%26#039;t be able to function well later on in life

Is it OK to be above the 80% intensity cardio heart rate?

It%26#039;s perfectly fine. The higher above your target heart rate, the more calories you%26#039;ll burn AFTER you stop working out. Unless you got a heart condition, you should have no problem with this. In fact, it%26#039;s even better for you than regular slow boring cardio. That has barely any benefits. So stick to what you%26#039;re doing. It%26#039;s good. Don%26#039;t fall for that %26quot;you need to be in this heart rate zone%26quot; stuff.

Is it OK to be above the 80% intensity cardio heart rate?

i had asked a similar question earlier, have a high heart rate on the treadmill and elliptical. 190 is not OK!!! u should never over-work your heart or it could cause a shock.

220 - 21 (age) = 199 this is ur max heart rate and u should never go near or over it. u should take some rest after heavy weights and then start the elliptical, with a low or moderate intensity.

have u just started ur workouts recently? mine was 176 on the treadmill just doing the walking, but after 2 weeks of exercise ive come down to 160.

Is it OK to be above the 80% intensity cardio heart rate?

You really cannot rely totally on the accuracy of those readouts on the machines. It%26#039;s important that as you work out, you listen to your body. If you ever feel like you are working too hard, you probably are. Your focus should be on working as hard as you can.

Do those fetal heart rate monitors really work?

I%26#039;ve never used one personally (well except for when they use one at my doctor%26#039;s appointments) but I have a friend that would like one and I want to get it for her. Has anyone else had experience with them and what brand? The ones I%26#039;m looking at cost about $40. I believe the brand was Angel Sounds or something like that. Any advice would be great! My friend has tried to get pregnant for 3 years now and the first time she did get pregnant she lost the baby around 8 weeks and she%26#039;s really nervous she%26#039;ll lose this one. I thought it might help her if she could listen to the heart beat whenever she wanted to. I couldn%26#039;t imagine losing a child... I would be heart broken so I want to help her out anyway I can but we live in different states. This is the only thing I could think of to help her out besides giving her encouraging words.

Do those fetal heart rate monitors really work?

The cheap ones are very hard to find the heartbeat with.... unfortunately the more expensive ones are better. You can also rent one.... it%26#039;s only for a few months, so it might be cheaper than buying one.

One word of advice.... I%26#039;m speaking from experience of a very good friend of mine. She lost a baby, and the next pregnancy, she got one of those fetal dopplers.... and she became obsessed! It can be a dangerous game... just be aware, that although she wants one for GOOD intentions... it might make her crazy and compulsive!! If she can%26#039;t find the heartbeat one time because of the baby%26#039;s position or something.... she will freak out!!!

If you want to get her one, that would be a wonderful gift (if you think she can hadle it)... but also, maybe find her a support group, either face to face, or online to help her through her fears in this pregnancy.

Blessings.

Do those fetal heart rate monitors really work?

I%26#039;m afraid that the cheap ones don%26#039;t work until quite a bit later in the pregnancy, if at all. If you%26#039;re looking for something that will theoretically work from about 10 weeks onwards (with a lot of hunting!) then you need to find a doppler unit instead. They%26#039;re expensive, but I bought one after my first miscarriage and it did help me quite a bit.

It%26#039;s very kind of you to think of your friend. She might be comforted as well by the people at www.pregnancyloss.info - they have a pregnancy after loss board where she can talk about her feelings with people who have experienced what she%26#039;s going through, and you might like it as well in case you have any questions. Sounds like you%26#039;re a great friend though.

Do those fetal heart rate monitors really work?

you are a really nice friend for doing that for her. I%26#039;ve heard that Angel sounds and Bebesounds are pretty good. BUT the only draw back is that sometimes they don%26#039;t work or the person uses it wrong, which can lead to more worry.

How far along is she? She won%26#039;t even get to hear it using those machines until she%26#039;s closer to her third trimester, and by then she%26#039;ll be feeling her baby move.

I also miscarried before, and was really worried about everything this time around. I thought for sure I would buy a heart monitor so I can hear my baby%26#039;s heart beat. But since, I%26#039;ve been feeling her move (at about 19 weeks), I really don%26#039;t feel the need to want to buy the machine. It just makes me more comfortable when I can feel my baby%26#039;s little tapping in my belly.

Do those fetal heart rate monitors really work?

type in google then ana wiz i bought mine off there and it has worked brilliantly since i bought it very reassuring for worried mothers to be you are a great friend.

Is it uncommon to have an active heart rate of 235 beats per minute?

I recently bought my girlfriend of 26 years of age a polar heart rate monitoring watch. She is training herself for a Charity run. She is getting readings as high as 235 beats per minute. We decided to return the watch and exchanged it for a new one thinking the watch must be faulty. None the less the new watch is giving the same results. She is not faint or have any pains but I worry for her. I have recomended she see a doctor just in case. She claims her heart has always had a high beat count even when she tested it on olyptical gym equipment. She is seemingly healthy and can run as far, and longer than I can. Should she worry?

Is it uncommon to have an active heart rate of 235 beats per minute?

She should see a doctor. Normal heart rates are between 60 (well conditioned athletes can be normal at 40 bpm) and 100 beats per minute. Even with a lot of exercise, the heart rate should stay below 200. You didn%26#039;t mention if the rate was during physical activity or during rest. If it was during rest I%26#039;d be even more concerned. Either way, she should see a doctor and get a 12 lead EKG at a minimum, to rule out dangerous conditions.

There are medical conditions that can cause an abnomrally high heart rate. One condition is called Wolf-Parkinson-White. Here%26#039;s a link with info about it. http://www.act4u.com/zip/ZipCodes.html

While there may be no problem, it would be best to consult a physician.

No, she should not worry. When a person is exercising heavily the heartrate WILL rise very high. If it comes back down while she is resting, then no problems at all.

Is it uncommon to have an active heart rate of 235 beats per minute?

That%26#039;s not normal. However, it%26#039;s probably highly inaccurate as it%26#039;s a watch, not a precise measuring device.

Um... hello! That is so not normal...Go to the ER. Immediately. Do you want the heart to explode!

Is it uncommon to have an active heart rate of 235 beats per minute?

It is uncommon and also very dangerous! A normal resting heartrate is between 80-100 beats per minute. Even during strenuous exercise, one should have a heart rate no higher than 170 beats per minute. She could be causing permanent heart damage and should see a cardiologist for a cardiac stress test and/or echocardiogram

Her heart rate is very high, she should see a doctor. Is it always that high, or does it go lower at times, just curious on that, she should get medical attention in case something%26#039;s not right beyond her pulse. 235,are you sure it%26#039;s that high?

Is it uncommon to have an active heart rate of 235 beats per minute?

Well that depends on what other drugs she is taking. It not a good idea to mix uppers and downers. And if you think she%26#039;s not on something you must be.Sorry

Is it uncommon to have an active heart rate of 235 beats per minute?

the damn thing is broken ...

the average of a woman%26#039;s heart beating is 80 to 90

beats per minute ...

even if u execerise ur a** off ... it can%26#039;t get 2 : 235 beats!

Is it uncommon to have an active heart rate of 235 beats per minute?

Well I would recommend that she has a physical with her doctor just like all the students do in school (i.e. better safe than sorry)!

%26quot;There are a number of tachyarrythmias (rapid and disturbed heart rythm) that could present with a heart rate over 200 bpm and with the symptoms you%26#039;ve described.

A simple EKG is not enough. I would suggest a Holter EKG if you haven%26#039;t already had one done. This would monitor the heart rythm throughout the day. Discuss this with your doctor%26quot;

If you%26#039;re posing this question here, then you are concerned. With health, it never pays to take chances. So, as many other people have suggested, it%26#039;s better to go to your doctor and pose your question there. He/She will be in a far better position to answer this question definitively than posing a question here and getting random responses that could lead to more problems.

Good luck.

that can be normal when someone is excersizing.

Is it uncommon to have an active heart rate of 235 beats per minute?

No it is not normal a good indication of what your girlfriends MAXIMUM heart rate should be is to take 220 and minus her age so if she is 25 it would be 220-25=195bpm in for a normal cardio/fatburn workout we usually work at 70-80% of the maximum heart rate for advanced and 60-70% for intermediate. I would recommend she sees the doc even if it%26#039;s for peace of mind she may be overworking herself when she could find a safer way of training to achieve her required results.

235 is too high whether it is her resting heart rate or in her target heart range!!! She needs to have a doctor check her out!

The most accurate place to count the pulse is at the wrist (radial pulse). Resting heart rate refers to a person%26#039;s heart rate at rest. Each time your hearts beats, a heart rate can be calculated. The best time to determine resting HR is in the morning, after a good night%26#039;s sleep, and before you get out of bed.

The maximum heart rate for a woman her age, in poor physical condition, is 83.

You will need your resting heart rate to calculate your target heart rate range. The ideal time to find your true resting heart rate is in the morning, before you get out of bed. Count your pulse for one whole minute to find your resting heart rate.

For your exercise target heart range:

Minimum:

220 minus age equals A

A minus resting heart rate equals B

B times .5 equals C

C plus resting heart rate equals minimum exercise heart rate

Maximum:

220 minus age equals A

A minus resting heart rate equals B

B times .85 equals C

C plus resting heart rate equals maximum exercise heart rate
